Menopause

does the peri meno affect your memory?

I'm 50 and at peri stage, I'm finding the last year my memory sure isnt as sharp as it used to be, I'm forgetting things that I planned last week etc etc

is it my age or does this time in my life have a bearing on my memory?

am a bit worried, my memory was always really sharp but I've seen a difference since my periods went haywire

Hi, I'm 35 and it's definitely affected mine, convinced I get brain fogs. Can't remember important dialect in meetings, some conversations with friends, plans and forget words etc.

I've gone from bright spark to dummy. It's really affected my confidence at work. I've just had my HRT doubled in the hope it helps this.

From what I've read it's a common side effect.

This is one of the main reasons why I'm on hrt.

I take testosterone gel supplementation for cognitive benefit too.

I really had a dip in confidence before, and wasted a year wondering what the blardy eck was wrong with me, before I clicked, DUH

I cannot afford to be stoopid or lacking confidence.

Have you been to your GP ssd? A blood test for FSH showed me I was in peri meno and got a script for lovely hrt.

Took me a week to get back on the horse mentally, and I wish I'd gone sooner, and not wasted a year wondering what was wrong, and why I wasn't firing on all cylinders.

Now I'm waving, not drowning.

Let us know how you get on?

am glad its not just me, I thought I was heading for Alzheimers ( I have health anxiety and catastrophise everything)

I will have to start writing stuff down, but I dont want to go down the HRT route yet.....it worries me more than affects me badly

my confidence is shot too, but I put that down to having a very menial job where I'm treated like the lowest of the low and having a difficult few years

its hard this stage, isnt it Sad

I forget things instantly - go out of a room to get something - whoosh - gone. Can't think of the words to describe things ....

I too was sharp and witty full of conversation. I now have trouble, remembering and even forming coherent sentences in conversation a lot of the time. I can't remember actors names and then it will pop into my head hours later! My confidence has been affected. Brain fog is my biggest problem I'm 46. Sorry no help ssd. Sad

choco if you don't mind me asking, how was your peri menopause diagnosed? I'm 36 and have been having terrible brain fog and cognitive problems. Also night sweats and anxiety (and that's not a feeling I'm used to getting before this). Doc has done hormone profile twice but nothing showing up. Putting it down to stress and burn out and currently off work as I can't function without my brain working 100%, but so many of the symptoms of peri menopause also fit... Confused

twinklefoot Yes!! I can be in the middle of a sentence (and you know as you're talking you're thinking of the next thing you're going to say and the next thing) and by the time I've finished the first thing, I can't remember what I was trying to work towards to say next! I must sound bloody goofy because I have to stop and say 'oh dang it i've totally forgotten what I was going to say ha ha!!". When I'm reading something I see the word and know what it is but you know how your brain kind of follows along as you're reading, and mine is inserting a similar but different word! I too fear horribly that I'm going with way of my mum who had vascular dementia and I'm terrified of it.

Not sure what to do about it though or if it's peri or full on menopause (I'm 50) because I'm also on the implanon implant so no idea what's going on with me or how they'd know if I was menopausal or not and even needed HRT, when I've got that thing inserted under my skin. Typical eh - most solid form of contraception I've ever been on, having absolutely NO sex what-so-ever.

Constantly overheated and overnight it's duvet on, duvet off, duvet on, duvet off. Drives me mad.

I struggle to find words, if I want to say the name of a song or a film star I can never get their name out, it's literally a conversation stopper because if you can't simply say "oh you know so and so [can't insert name]" then there's no point to even speaking the first half of the sentence in the first place!

I hate it because I'm properly sharp normally but it's been SO incredibly noticeable a decline in cognitive ability it's really quite worrying. I'm at the docs on Fri seeking meds for anxiety - might ask about peri/menopause as well see what they can do as it might be part of then.

Oh lord that's what's wrong with me!! My memory is shot to hell, I'm down, tired, lazy - how is peri menopause diagnosed? Is it blood tests? Everyone is saying I'm stressed but which I am but the memory thing is exceptionally bad-missed my daughters parent/teacher meeting last week because I totally forgot about itConfused I never forget things like that

Has anyone found an absolute total lack of ability to find the energy to exercise as well?

I compare when I ran 10 yrs ago at 40. I used to so look forward to the endorphin hit about 25 minutes in and used to power to the end of my run like a 100m sprinter! Fast forward to this past year when I was managing to do 3 x 5ks a week but jesus, it nearly bloody killed me! I literally used to shuffle round and never ever got the endorphin hit I so used to enjoy. I've just stopped I just can't find any get up and go.

And this is annoying me, typing this post! I have been touch typing since I was 15 but now I mis-type, insert the wrong letters - there's no way I could ace 82wpm any more - I can barely string a typed sentence together!

Badders123 · 21/02/2017 20:14

Yep
I'm trying to get the energy to go swimming again
And failing
