Menopause

Please tell me your boobs hurt

Posted a while back but didn't get as much feedback as I expected.
My boobs hurt at certain times of the month and more my right than left.
It hurts a week before I'm due on and ovulation time. It isn't agony but achy and perhaps stingy.
A friend of mine works in a breast clinic and said it's hormones and normal for one to suffer more than the other but I wondered if anyone else suffered with this?

I used to (although not menopause related as I was early/mid twenties) and I found taking supplements of Evening Primrose Oil really helpful. I took them for years and came off them eventually and no pain has returned.

I also suffered in my 20's and 30's and evening primrose oil was amazing, nothing to do with menopause though.....

Yes I get this too and think I am peri-menopausal. It's worse at certain times of the month. Sometimes when DD cuddles me and digs her head in it really hurts! My right is also the worst. I have checked and can't find any lumps or anything unusual. I will try the evening primrose oil.

Over the years I've occasionally had aching boobs but last year they were painful for a couple of days. My nipples were like wheel nuts and I couldn't touch them. I'm 49 now and haven't had it since.

Aah thanks all.
I'm perimenopausal too.
Right side is worse and agree about the nipples light wheel nuts! 😂
I am seeing the GP next week but I'll be on by then so I'm guessing it will be better.

Yes, me too. Always have had this just before a period. Rather like the breast pain you get in early pregnancy. It's to do with oestrogen sensitivity IIRC and there is some scientific evidence that taking fish oil supplements help (they certainly seem to help me).

Mine are terribly sore at certain times of the month. I can't run, even wearing a sports bra as they are so uncomfortable.

GP says its homones!

Thank god for this thread.... I am panicking but I think I am perimenopausal. Maybe Evening Primrose would be a good idea.. I will try it.

Can you all explain what the pain feels like for you?

It's to do with progesterone as far as I know. I had sore nipples as part of PMS all my life ( 2nd half of a cycle but disappeared when the bleed started) but worse towards meno when all PMS symptoms can get worse.

Yes agony and really itchy nipples - was the same through pregnancy. Think I'm peri- menopausal too but gp is completely ignoring it and said I'm too young. I'm 46 this year...

Report
PollyPerky · 07/02/2017 08:04

How can your GP say you are too young when menopause is from 45- 55? (And peri is many years leading up to that.) Just don't get these GPs. Shock

That's rubbish I'm 41 and peri and if I go the same way as my mum and sister I'll be through it by 45. My doc won't accept it either and that's why I struggle because I have so many symptoms that are hormonal but the won't have it so I worry what else it could be. I have an auto immune disease so I'm checked over quite regularly and I truly believe my gp not accepting it is making the whole thing worse. My pain can be stinging or achy and around the edge of my boobs if you know what I mean. But nipples can get sore too and can't bear them touching anything. I've been period for a while and I am struggling to see where the month starts and finishes. Hormonal about 10 days before period then during ovulation and then we are back into the 10 days before period again!

That should say I've been peri not period

My breast pain is mainly in the left boob, it is a burning, sore feeling in the nipple. My right breast is super tender when I touch it but I'm not aware of it in the same way.The worse thing is putting a seat belt on.
I used to have tenderness for a day or so but now it lasts about five days, usually around a week before my period.

Started with aching wrists about 3 years ago, that moved to elbows. Now my knees are agony, but only in bed.
I am early 50s.

Yes I get it a week before my period, even the water from the shower is agony. As soon as I start bleeding it disappears

Report
RedBugMug · 07/02/2017 22:31

saw a gp today (about something else)
the go recommended I try evening primrose oil and to make an appointment in 6 months time in case there is no improvement.

is there actually evidence about evening primrose? or is it snake oil?

I had incredibly itchy breasts for about a year leading up to the cessation of my periods (well, not total cessation, I'm at two periods in the last 7 months).
I would regularly scratch between my boobs until it was read and sore. Hellish.
That's stopped now, I'm back to 'crying in the car' at the moment. That too shall pass.

Putting Aquaeous ,(sp) on nipples every morning in shower has helped my sore nipples, read about it on a menopause site. Been peri for a while now think I am in full menopause, HRT helps a bit.

Mine are currently strapped into an ancient maternity bra to stop them moving to try and minimise the pain. I've got to go downstairs shortly and I know they'll make me wince. It feels like the early days of breastfeeding, minus the cute baby and lolling around in pj's watching daytime tv Hmm .
