So as the year draws to a close I thought I would share my experiences of becoming offically menopausal this year.

The hot flushes what can I say im fanning myself practically 24/7. Before I got them I thought I would like being a little warm didnt expect to be on fire:D. The girls at work who are in their 30s can now tell when im getting one and we talk about as they feel there mums kept quite quiet about there experience.

How has everyone else got on with hot flushes at work?

My kids bought me a fan for my christmas its called my women of a certain age fan😂.

Weight gain- overnight i seem to have developed this belly that wont go away and my boobs have got bigger as well. Bloody hormones everyone my age seems to have this problem.

Please share you experences of how menopause has been for you in 2016.

I became menopausal (ie 12 months without a period) in my early 50s. I decided I'd not put up with all the flushes because they were affecting my work, so I've been on HRT for a number of years and, all being well, will continue with it. Feel pretty good most of the time.
Worth a try?

I have an older friend in her late 50s and she said she didnt get the flushes since she took hrt. This was when I was having a public tropical moment in a cafe. I had to get the waiter to bring a menu so i could fan myself🙈

I will need to discuss with my GP as my mum had breast cancer

The 'rule' for breast cancer/ hereditary / HRT is 2 first degree relatives with it at a young age ( under 40) .

HRT doesn't cause breast cancer. It may promote its growth if it's already there, sometimes.

Suggest you have a good read of the website Menopause Matters and the blog by Dr Currie who runs it. (Bottom of Home page- lots on HRT /cancer risks)

I had my last period March 2015, have never had a hot flush and have been on HRT for 8 months so hoping that keeps them completely away, they sound awful!

It sounds like thats how youve not had one. I have had a few already in 2017 and its not even been here 12 hours🙈

I couldn't do my job in the NHS without HRT the hot flushes were too debilitating and I decided there was no way I was going to punish myself like that. I've been on it for 10 years.
My colleague who started at the same time as me 10 years ago went au naturelle and is still getting hot flushes, her personality has completely changed and not for the better either, she has put on about three stone and looks awful and she used to be so lovely.
There is no way I'm coming off HRT until it's long gone.
