Coping with sweating and dehydration - how?

Corygal · 20/12/2015 22:05

Am peri and sweating, pouring pints, every day soaking through clothes and hair. Just recovering from a cold brought on by wearing a t shirt outside as I'm always so terribly hot.

Other people are commenting on the severe sweating I'm having. kindly but with concern. I can't drive any more as I can't see where I'm going when my forehead gushes into my eyes and my glasses steam up.

Even the slightest activity triggers a gush that lasts about 90min. It's much worse pre-period. And it's really getting me down.

Any advice? for instance, how much should I be drinking to replace the lost fluids? I'm never without a pint of water these days, but I'm wondering about salts and things too.

Have you thought about HRT?

That sound pretty bad, my flushes last a couple of minutes max. Stared HRT 10 days ago, sweats stopped during the day still a few at night and not sleeping great but feel good. You cannot let this continue it sounds dangerous if driving.
I take it you have tried the herbal route, sage, black cohash, menopause tablets etc they didn't work for me but might help you.
Good luck

It IS extreme CG- have never ever heard of anyone having those kinds of sweats (and all my friends are post meno.)

You could ask your GP about blood tests for other conditions too in case there is something else going on as well as peri.

Most people I know describe a hot flush as something that lasts about 5 minutes maximum. Mine were every hour and lasted around 2 minutes each time- red face, sweaty upper lip and that was it.

Hrt is the only thing that seriously works - I recommend it

Yes, I agree to go to doctor.
Hope you feel better soon.
Do you have much caffeine or alcohol, cutting these out is helpful.

How's your overall health? Do you get enough exercise, eat healthily and are within the normal BMI range?

Try Odoban £12.99 from Boots, you might have to order it, spray onto muslin / cloth square and dab on face back of neck ect, every day at first, then 2 or 3 times a week to keep facial sweating under control, as someone who has been battling this problem for more than twenty years ( I kid you not) and having tried everything under the sun, this is the ONLY thing I have found that works for me.

Those sweats sound severe. I really feel for you. Definitely see your doctor.

I'm another one who found HRT the answer to these symptoms (although mine weren't as long-lasting as yours, they were starting to interfere with everything, especially work and sleep). Within two weeks of starting the first pack my sweats/flushes stopped and I have rarely had one since. The very occasional ones have been minor and not very noticeable.

Meanwhile, carry a muslin or similar to mop up so you're not freezing when the flush has subsided and you still have soaking hair, face, back etc.

red is your issue one of the menopause or something else?
If it's meno are you opposed to HRT?
There is a recognised condition where people sweat too much which can be treated with drugs, or even surgery ( removal of underarm sweat glands etc) and your GP could help.
If it's meno then HRT will help- 20 years with poor quality of life should not be endured!
