Menopause

Sleep at last...

Posted here in desperation a few weeks on only 4 hours sleep a night due to flushes. Wanted to know how long the Orstrogel HRT gel would take to work.

Three weeks in and it feels like I have been sprinkled with sleep dust. I simply stay asleep like I used to till the morning- it's given me my life back.

I understand it can't be for everyone- but I'm 47 and from what I understand it's putting back what should be there- similarly to if I was deficient in iron for example.

Just wanted to give my account of Hrt from someone who was initially sceptical!

That's so good to read HormonalHeap.

I'm 45. Never had hot flush or sweat, but insomnia and poor sleep were one of my worst peri menopause symptoms. I went from being a solid 8-9 hours a night type of girl, to lying awake until 3am, then sleeping very poorly before waking around 5.45am with a meerkat type reaction. Eyes banged open and heart racing Sad

It was just dreadful. I got to the point where I was dreading going to bed each night.

Into my 4th week of HRT and sleep is definitely improving steadily. Finding it much easier to drop off. Sleeping through and waking slightly later in the morning. No more meerkat wakings either.

In fact this morning I didn't wake up until 7.10am! It's wonderful Smile

That's great news. I've been using the Oestrogel for 5 weeks now but I haven't noticed any real improvement with my sleep - am still waking at 3am in a meerkat style. I'm using 2 pumps a day - I wonder if I need to up my dose to 3 pumps. It has completely got rid of the hot flushes though.

I don't know bananahead I wear a patch so the oestrogen dose is constant for me. I know nothing about using the gel.

Up until a few weeks ago I had no idea that insomnia and poor sleep were probably caused by your hormones if you were peri menopausal??

Those pesky hormones are responsible for nearly everything! I hadn't made the sleep connection either.
