Menopause

wet patches!!!

I got up from my plastic chair at school today and there was a wet patch on the blue plastic chair that looked like i had wet myself!!!
It was sweat!!! My long school shorts (knee length) were actually damp at the back. The back of my legs just sweat so much at the moment when I'm sitting down,
Noone noticed thankfully but I work with a boy!! A fully qualified experienced 31 year old teacher but a boy nonetheless. i didn't sit down for the rest of the afternoon.
What can I do????? I might actually have to discuss my menopause with him mightn't I?? We have previously discussed (in passing and lightheartedly) mood swings. Being as I never leave home without a Tena and sing their praises he might think I've wet myself otherwise.
Oh god, the shame.
I'm 49 and six stones overweight, by the way and still having periods, did think they might be on the way out as it was a good week late this month but it arrived and I am dieting.
Help me!

Ah yes - the curse of the plastic school chair - I remember them well.

Maybe take a cushion?

Sadly, it's the weight- your body is having to work so much harder to keep you cool. All I'd suggest is stick to your change of lifestyle re. dieting, and stop wearing shorts- a loose skirt in cotton etc would be better so at least the heat can get out rather than be trapped in shorts or trousers.

Just wear some more suitable clothing

You probably need a thin cushion (maybe with a towelling inner cover) on the chair.

Also, it might be worth trying one of the supplements that are meant to help - a general menopause formula or sage?

Or if the flushes are getting really bad, think about HRT and see your GP.

I think it's weight too. I am about 3 stone overweight and have noticed this on occasion. Only a small patch. But there nonetheless. Don't think anyone else has noticed ( I hope!) but it is potentially very embarrassing!

Bit confused when you said 'long school shorts' are you in the UK- and is this some sort of staff uniform? Can you choose what to wear?

I am sure that weight is probably not a help but I remember this problem well, when I was at school and underweight, at damper times of the month. This was with school skirt and underskirt. Plastic chairs are very unforgiving as far as evaporation and air flow go, and dark ones will show every little damp patch.

I would just take a thin cushion and say 'Damn, these chairs are just so uncomfortable at my age'.

If it would make you feel better to lose some weight, then do so. Feeling good about yourself helps cope with embarrassment :)

Yes, dieting is going well, it did used to be eight stones surplus. Think I shall just make sure I wear black on my lower half for the foreseeable future1
