Should men fear the menopause?
I asked men to come forward and help me with anecdotes and quotes on how to live with menopausal woman and I was greeted with Silence with the exception of one brave man called Jus a friend of mine who wrote:
? Firstly I think many men don't understand what's going on when a woman is suffering from menopausal symptoms, which leads to frustration, and argument etc. I think to a certain extent that even some women don't realise what's happening to them. I think they wouldn't feel as bad if they knew what was actually going on, rather than just "feeling like crap".
"And secondly, for a male to be able to cope with a menopausal lady, he needs to have patience and understanding. If you don't have those, you might as well get a divorce, before you kill each other."
What a wonderful man, I know his wife thinks so but I am sure there are many other good men out there, so how can we help those others survive the menopause? The fact is that some 65% of divorces after the age of 50 are instigated by women so what?s going on? When men are winding down ready for retirement , women are revving up ready for a new life. The old program of bringing up a family, putting your own needs second, staying at home just doesn?t fit with the hopes and aspirations of a new you. I?m not suggesting that you should suddenly up and leave unless that?s right for you but maybe we could have a few tips for the men in our lives that we all could benefit from.
