Menopause

Aching, stiff legs and arms - menopause symptoms?

Zakinthos · 17/09/2011 22:30

I am 48 and am experiencing some other symptoms of menopause/perimenopause, but for the last few weeks my legs and arms and whole body really are really aching and stiff. It feels like exercise soreness except that I haven't done anything different to normal. I am quite fit and walk the dog daily and play tennis regularly. But I am starting to feel old especially when getting up from sitting down for a while or getting out of the car. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, does it go away?!

I'm 47 and have been experiencing pain like you describe, uncanny really as it's been quite bad these last 2 weeks and I have come on today, so whether that has any bearing, I don't know.

My pains were so bad, I just wanted a massage, to ease my aching muscles (hadn't done any exercise though, so was mystified).

I only came on 2wks ago, so not good that I've come on yet again! Grrr! I'm currently being monitored for anaemia - have had 2 courses of iron in the past 18 months so will see what the next blood test reveals.

I have read now that it can be a symptom of perimenopause but maybe I should see gp to check my iron levels. I struggled to bend down to put my socks on this am and I am not overweight! I think I am going to start taking some sort of vitamin supplement as well to see if that helps. Thanks - it's good to know I am not the only one!

Yes....this is me. I feel like I've been run over by a bus. Am 49. I walk and do the gym 3 x weekly. But after sitting down for a while inaposition I have to move real slow, as I ache and wince like an 80 yr old.

Oh Christ, is this me for the rest of my life?

Me too - terrible back ache, which is unexplained, even though I try to exercise, and I'm not overweight Sad.

I'm often woken in the night by terrible pains in my legs too - as the OP says - like muscle pains, but not related to exercise I've done.

Am contemplating a visit to the GP.....and HRT

I've actually done no exercise this week because I feel like I've been run over by a bus!!

Oops, already said that, anyway, it's crap. Need to see my GP possibly.

I've been feeling like this for months now (am 48).
But I've had (unrelated) backache for years, so thought it was just a progression of that. I've also recently been diagnosed with arthritis of the hip (old gimmer), but have put all the aches and pains and general urge-to-sit-down-ness to that.

Maybe it is an age-related thing as well. Must be some magic supplement that would help < glimmer of hope >.

I've been trying to exercise, and it does feel a bit better afterwRds, but it's hard to motivate yourself through the aches and pains and actually do it.
Plus the exercises from the Physio take a good 20 mins a day, so rime left isimited < makes excuses >.

Glad it's not just me, I was beginning to feel I had something seriously wrong with me. When I hit 49 in January I started with terrible back ache, which hasn't gone though it slightly better. I feel exhausted most nights and could crawl into bed only to have hot flushes most nights so the duvet if off and on several times a night. I have been feeling so old and achey, if I sit for long periods it's so hard to get up oh and trying to get my knickers on in a morning balancing on one leg is a nightmare! I just feel really old all of a sudden and think is this what I've got to look forward to for the rest of my life?
I didn't even know I was peri until i looked into my hot flushes the I learned so much off the net, no one tells you any of this and how crap you'll feel.

So.....my symptoms are feeling low, tired, achey, weepy, no sex drive at all now, periods becoming longer apart.

My GP said as I was still having periods she wouldn't give me HRT and to try herbal remedies, trying some multivitamins plus isoflavines but no end to the aches and pains.

Also my bloods are borderline for under active thyroid but some of the symptoms like joint pain are the same as peri so unsure what is causing it, I feel so crap most days and it's hard to motivate myself and find holding down a job where I have to concentrate very hard, I can't keep up with those in their 20's anymore and envy those retiring even tho I'm only 49!!!

I am 49 and have been aching now for about 2 years!!! I feel like my ribcage has been bashed in the night, when I get up in the morning it wears off after about half an hour (the rib cage ache) Ive been to my GP had a full MOT.......nothing untoward so it must be menopausal....but its awful if I sit for a while when I get up I feel like and old old bent up person, Im forgetful, tired (because Im up all night sweating),even been getting teenage spots.....its a joke!

Debbiedob - if there's nothing else wrong with you - and you've been checked out - then most likely you need some oestrogen! How are your periods? Any sweats or flushes? If your periods have gone erratic at all and you have any other symptoms then go and see about some HRT. Not always a magic cure but can make you feel a whole heap better. Have you had a blood test to see where you are in meno? They are unreliable indicators if you are peri but I gather if you have several it can help (don't know too much about these as only had one which confirmed I was...).

I have been experiencing some of the above mentioned symptoms and it's NOT pretty!

I have noticed that using an iron supplement has made a positive difference with regards to regulating my cycle, (which at one point had become VERY heavy) thank God!

However, as far as the aches an pains are concerned, I just came across a supplement (while reading the 34 menopause symptoms' website) that sounds like it's worth a try.

The supplement that the site mentions is called Macafem. I have not tried it just yet, however I believe I will.

If anybody's interested here is the website.
www.34-menopause-symptoms.com/treatments.htm

The website is an in interesting read.

When reading, make sure to select the Macafem link for further info and the video on the supplement.

I hope this helps me and others as well.

I get horrendous aches in my legs, mostly at night but when I get them during the day I can hardly walk.

This is a timely thread.

I have been aching like crazy lately - despite scaling back on exercising.

Have been in denial, but upon reading this section of mnet am thinking that's me heading for it too.

You are still in peri at 55? That's pretty late. How often are you having periods?

Soon 54 and joints not good of late also constant headaches albeit mild but annoying nonetheless. Periods erratic and keep hoping that they are stopping.

I have doubled my glucosamine as it was helping my right knee but it has got worse recently so I am now on the optimum dose.

Great isn't it ....!
