Hi tjgx, goodness me things have gone quiet on the N1 front since I was last around! We had quite a busy little group going for a while. Well - I'm back and bumping this for you and anyone else in the area who'd like to start (or re-start) meeting up. Let's talk days, times, places:

I'm free mornings and afternoons most days except Fri afternoons at the moment.

Prefer somewhere where DD (13m) can crawl around and get up to mischief, but can no longer make the 2o'clock club as she usually sleeps about 1-3pm. Best solution might be to meet in cafes initially? After that I'm always happy to have people round here but prefer to meet in public first just in case they turn out to be hairy chainsaw murderers in disguise.

Hi all,
I would like to get involved in an N1 meet up. Baby due in early June, have 1 dd already but she will be in nursery most days.

I should probably come clean and say I'm pg again too - was hoping to tell all my MN friends in person when we finally all meet up again but who knows when that'll be? So, that's the reason behind my mysterious absence - I've been puking several times a day for the last couple of months. Due early Sept. So will be particularly happy to meet you other pg N1 mums!

welshmum, let's see if we can get something sorted in the next week or 2.

Hi all
I'm 9 weeks and new to all this malarky.
have been given 4 hospitals to chooose from by the doctor, whittington, homerton, uclh and royal free. i live in highbury so i guess whittington would be the obvious choice but who knows??? I don't know anyone with a london baby, and don't know anyone who is expecting....so wise ladies I need some help. can you tell me if you rate any of the above if you experienced them? hospitals do freak me out a bit. I like to be in control....
thank you if you can help me. is anyone on this thread due in Nov 05?

JenJam welcome My own personal thoughts on the hosps you mention are: avoid the Royal Free like the plague; I've heard mixed reports about the rest (as of all hosps) but the Whittington is supposed to be OK; I've heard more good things about UCLH than anywhere else round here, and hopefully they're doing my homebirth for me in Sept. Have you looked into homebirth BTW? My antenatal care at UCLH so far has been in another league from the Free - I've been quite overwhelmed. Have a look at this thread for some more opinions.

Do you want to meet up? I live just off Highbury Corner. Kate79 and I were trying to arrange something in the next week or two - when are you free?

Report
franch · 31/03/2005 15:39

Oh PS JenJam: do a tour of all the hosps' maternity units before you decide. Just give them a call - they all do tours for mums-to-be at different times, usually Sunday afternoons.

Hi Franch, I work just off upper street, near Bierodrome/Town Hall. would love to meet up sometime, but am working away all of next week, back late Sun 10th...so w/c 11th or week after, have to be evenings or a weekend or lunch?

Are you and Kate working?

And when's your due date??

welshmum · 01/04/2005 11:17

jen jam I had dd at UCH and although it's a bit scuzzy round the edges the care was excellent and the staff lovely. I'm having this one there too - end of May probably. Would still like to meet up some time but I'm confused about timings

JenJam I live in N1 and had my baby at the Royal Free. The labour ward is lovely, all brand new and you can choose to be on the natural birth side or the other side. I didn't like their ante natal clinic though and the maternity ward was a bit grotty. They also didn't get me into any of their ante natal classes despite my asking at every single appointment. In the end it didn't matter, I did most of my labour at home and only went to hospital when it was time to push.

One thing to bear in mind about the Whittington is that they won't tell you the sex of the baby when you have the scan. I didn't choose to go there myself because my mum had a bad experience there having her tonsils out when she was a child, they took her adenoids out instead and so she ended up having to go back to get her tonsils done! Ok It was over 50 years ago but still didn't make me feel great about the place. Having said that my GP midwife was from the Whittington and she was great, better than the ones at the Royal Free ante natal clinic.

UCH is supposed to be really nice, I know someone who had her baby there and she was very happy with it.

We are just about to move out of London so I probably won't make it to the meet up unfortunately but hope you all have a lovely time!

Actually if it's to be a lunchtime meet, can we change it to somewhere more food-y? DD will be starving Carluccio's maybe? Actually I'm open to suggestions other than our usual haunts, to get us out of our Upper St rut!

JenJam, CAT me (using the 'contact another talker' link above) and I'll email you my mobile phone no. and description of me and DD

quick hijack

I had the DTs at the Whittington and my consultant told me the sexes. It was a wonderful hospital and even though it doesn't look good cosmetically I loved it and had a good time.

Hi everyone
Hope you don't mind me jumping in here and asking if any of you know a good childminder with vacancies? I live in Stoke Newington, but will be returning to work in west end in June. My dd will be 9 months by then and I am looking for 3 days a week. Islington would be handy for drop offs and picks up for me and dp. Any ideas, recommendations anyone - cheers in advance

Report
franch · 06/04/2005 08:13

Can't help I'm afraid janx - there aren't that many of us on this thread but there are lots of Islingtonians on MN as a whole so if I were you I'd start a separate thread in the childcare section to get their attention

Good luck
