Meet-up for Mums with Depression - North London

I'm an older mum and have been suffering from depression, particularly badly in the last year. I was trying to find a Depression Group close to me and I looked on this site here . They have many local depression groups around the UK listed, if anyone wants to see if there is one running near to them. I couldn't find one very local to me so I'm considering starting one up. I don't know what's involved yet and I've emailed the site today for general info.

Are there any mums in North London in the N4, N8, N22, N15 areas who would be interested in a Depression Group. These are my nearest areas and I live halfway between Harringay and Crouch End. I have no one to talk to who really understands. I've recently come out of a very controlling relationship and my xdp had anger/violence problems. I have a DS of 7.

If the D/group doesn't work out perhaps it could be turned into a meet up?!! The reason I deliberately focussed on the depression issue is because I've got all the classic signs of depression because of the things I've been thru recently. So although I haven't lost my sense of humour - I'm friendly and come across as cheerful - the normal sounding meet-up (happy, bright, breezy) might be a strain right now. I'm often in a frozen, teary, desperate state and I've had some alarming new symptoms recently, especially erratic sleeping patterns which have spurred me into action. It would be nice to find a supportive group where we could relate to eachother.

I've posted this also on the Feeling Low Board too. You can post here or CAT me if you are interested or have any comments or suggestions. Get in touch!

Sorry Tjgx! I changed my chat name (previously ElectricBlue) to Sealcub. Forgot to mention it, my headcold has made me a bit forgetful ...

tjgx, did you get my email? Do you want to meet sometime in the half term after 12th Feb? I have odd days in that week. Hope you are OK. How old are your children? Is there a softplay centre/ballpit etc near to you in Islington? My son enjoys things like that. Let me know. EB xxx

HELLO ELECTRICBLUE. I CAN EMPATHISE WITH YOUR SITUATION FULL. WAS ONCE IN RELATIONSHIP SIMILAR. NOW HAVE A THIRD CHILD WITH SECOND PARTNER. DP IS MOODY, ANGRY HAS TEMPER FLARES AND SOMETIMES THINK I MUST LEAVE HIM BUT CANT BARE TO GO THROUGH ANOTHER BREAKUP. HE IS A GOOD DAD TO MY FOUR OLD. HAVE TWO TEENAGERS WHO DONT LIKE HIM VERY MUCH. GET VERY DOWN AT TIMES, WE ARGUE A LOT. WOULD LIKE TO FIND A GROUP TO THE ONE YOU MENTIONED IN MY AREA, I LIVE NEAR SOUTHAMPTON AND SALISBURY, HANTS/WILTS BORDER.

ElectricBlue Fri 04-Feb-05 20:49:38

Aerobics - I wish you lived nearer to me! I know what you mean about not being able to bear breaking up. I put it off for years, living in denial and hoping things would change if only we got a lucky break, etc, etc. When my self esteem went down, I lost my personality, my self belief and my strength - I was weakened by the negative energy around me with all the rows and it made me feel like I'd crumble going it alone. I still have so much work to do on myself. I'm currently reading a self help book that's useful.

Hope you can resolve your problems. Is there hope for counselling or anger management therapy with him? My XDP always refused outside help. We are still living together for the time being until we can sort finances and make plans. Atleast we are not arguing anymore, it is the arguing that's so draining - it takes up so much valuable living time and I ended up getting behind on just about everything which took away the little control that I had in my life.

I had a look on the website link in my first message. There is a group in Southampton. It's worth checking out if it's still up to date, you will have to email them to get the details. Good luck. xxx

No FC, not yet .... I think I might resurrect this or start a new thread in a few weeks when the weather improves.
