Hi - I'm new to Mumsnet, so please bare with me. I'm from Coventry and have a 21 month son. I'm at home full-time as he has been ill a lot, and I'm feeling very isolated and down. I don't get to see many other mums at groups etc as I can't always take my son out when he's ill, and I tend to find that most of the carers at toddler groups are childminders. I'm looking for a friendly face(s) in Coventry area or just mums I can talk to by email.
Thank you very much

NikkiP

Hi Nikki,
I just noticed your post. Posts seem to get lost quite quickly on Mumsnet these days due to volume. I just wanted to say welcome to Mumsnet I empathise with your situation as I know how isolsting it can be. I am not from Coventry but I am sure someone here is.

Hi Nikki,

I'm a bit down the M1 from you so probably a little far. If you want to CAT me then feel free, am always up for an email chat!

I pass Cov quite often on my way to Midlands to visit friends - what side are you?

As Winnie says hopefully someone from Coventry will see this soon!!

I'm not in Coventry either, but I used to work in Coventry and lived in Bedworth.

I'm sure someone local will come along and chat soon ... I seem to remember that there are quite a few people in Nuneaton lurking around.

Come and join in with some of the chat threads, there's loads of people to chat with there.

hi Nikki
I'm a very infrequent mumsnetter but I do live in Leamington. Have 2yr old son, Max and feel bad for you being so isolated. I work full time (unfortunately)but am always on my mobile for a chat and pass through Cov often.

LunarSea Wed 12-Jan-05 22:39:39

Hi Nikki - I'm in Leamington too, with a lively 3.4 year old, but I'm afraid I'm also working full time. Perhaps when the weather starts getting a bit better we can arrange some kind of weekend meetup around Coventry. Somewhere child-friendly like Coombe Abbey perhaps?

moondog Wed 12-Jan-05 22:51:03

Hello Nikki
Sorry, not in Coventry but just want to say hi, and as I spend my life on this damned contraption, I'm sure that we'll talk!!!
It will really help with the loneliness"

Hi Bonkerez
This was some impressive promt reply. To be frank I have no clue about he areas!! Meaning whats in and out of Leicester. I live in Oadby and only know the surroundings. So how many children do you have and what are their ages? Would you also tell me abit more about you??

Hi Nikki. Am not in Coventry myself, in Dorset but wanted to bump this thread for you in hope of finding someone in your area. I know where you are coming from feeling low and lonely. MN is a great place to be - it's good to pull up a chair, pour yourself a large drink and join in with a chat. It's just as good as a night out with your mates. Hope to speak to you soon. xx

*Hi Nikki*

I'm in Swindon, about an hour from you. My son is just three and was also ill for most of his first year, so I know how isolating it can be. If you don't mind me asking, what's wrong? Only I wondered if it's something that might have a local support group for sufferers/parents where you could meet others with the same worries? On different note, I used to (in a different life!) travel to Bir'm most w/e's clubbing and always found people in your neck of the woods warm and welcoming.I'm not in Coventry but I'm no stranger to travelling, so if you fancy meeting one w/e let me know.

colditzmum Tue 18-Jan-05 00:24:00

Mailtania, where in Leicestershire are you? (hi nikkip!)

mailtania Tue 18-Jan-05 23:39:40

HI Colditzmum
I live in Oadby and yourself?

Hi NikkiP I'm in Tamworth, Coventry aint that far, I have a 4 yr old and a 3 week old (boys), I drive so aint a problem, CAT me and maybe we'll meet up

NikkiP Mon 24-Jan-05 11:30:10

Thank you to all your replies from the v lonely mum in Coventry. I don't drive (although have a license - never had confidence), so may be difficult for me to travel outside Coventry much.
My son (21 mths) has Asthma which is why I gave uop work because he had a pattern of well for two weeks, then a cold which immediately became a chest infection requiring hospital visits, then ill for two weeks, well for two weeks, etc, and it was too stressful.
Now that I'm at home he's ill about every 6 weeks which is an improvement, but every cold he gets is potentially harmful as it always becomes a chest infection, and he's ill at moment. I feel so depressed and in a vicious circle of do I isolate him completely, or as I have been doing just take him to one toddler group a week (which I feel isn't enough, but then he;s always ill).My husband tells me not to take him to anything, and if I must to make it a Fri so that he's less likely to become ill over the weekends while he's around! And my hub says mixing with other children isn't necessary (which I don't agree with at all). My concern is my isolation and loneliness (and my son's) and that this may continue when he starts school, in which case what do I do then?
I need advice. I saw a doctor for depression (which I've had for several years on and off) who wanted to give me ADs and said counselling would take 6 month wait. I wasn't happy with these choices, and my hub refuses to believe I am depressed, and that I'm just 'down'. This makes it all harder for me to try and socialise, as my hub is hands-off with my son, so no real time to go out and do things on my own, especially when my son is unwell.
I'm so sorry to ramble on. Should this all be under another topic?
Thank you

NikkiP

Is there anything outdoors you could do which would allow him to mix, without being in an enclosed environment? It might also be worth asking your HV if they know any other local mums in a similar situation, who they could put you in touch with.

ladysu38 Mon 24-Jan-05 12:25:59
