moljam Sun 03-Feb-08 21:11:48

Fubsy Sun 03-Feb-08 21:14:05

Fubsy Sun 03-Feb-08 21:14:34

moljam Sun 03-Feb-08 21:21:05

Fubsy Sun 03-Feb-08 22:16:58

Round here its Laanston, but Im an incomer, so I say Lawnston!

cadelaide Sun 03-Feb-08 22:18:05

moljam Sun 03-Feb-08 22:20:23

lol are you local cadelaide?thats what dh says!

cadelaide Sun 03-Feb-08 22:28:07

no, and it was a bit naughty of me to join in.
I'm in Somerset, but lived and worked in Launceston for a year.
Loved it smile

Fubsy Sun 03-Feb-08 22:29:24

Of course, forgot to leave out the vowels!

(Dont forget Im actually in Devon, so theyre probably saying it a bit posher!)

moljam Sun 03-Feb-08 22:30:17

not naughty to join in at allgrin!

Fubsy Sun 03-Feb-08 22:30:33

Someone's put Launceston in the worst places in Britain thread. In fact nearly everywhere Ive ever lived/worked is in that thread!

cadelaide Sun 03-Feb-08 22:32:47

Me too Fubsy,I feel a kind of perverse pride!
But I really did love my year in Launceston. Lovely people.

moljam Sun 03-Feb-08 22:33:16

have they lol! i think its ok-nearly moved there recently but only as schools are good and compared to camelford its beutiful!theres nothing here!ive not looked at thread!

Fubsy Sun 03-Feb-08 22:54:44

I drive through Camelford on my way to Polzeath.

XP and I had a car accident near there and had to spend the night in a B&B, when they had that chemical spill into the river years ago.

For some reason its always stuck in my mind!

Im sure thats not its only claim to fame though grin

scorpio1 Sun 03-Feb-08 22:55:36

ooh your miles away from me, im in penzance!

BigBadMouse Sun 03-Feb-08 23:07:32

<jumps up and down frantically>

don't forget me grin

Whats so bad about Launceston??? It's not wonderful but it's not that bad either methinks

Anyway Laaaansn for sure, I live somewhere with a very similar sounding name so I have to practice every day or get lynched by the locals wink. Then there Holsworthy just nearby = olsery hmm

There must be more of us out there for a meet up surely???

cadelaide Sun 03-Feb-08 23:24:22

Oh I do feel nostalgic.
Perhaps I could make a long trip and come as a pretend Cornish?

moljam Mon 04-Feb-08 10:39:16

cadelaide come and be cornish!im not cornish btw but lived here for 13 years-another 20 and i'll be exceptedgrin

Fubsy thats when we moved here just after everyone got green hair lol.looked exciting!

BigBadMouse -who could forget you!grini dont think its all that bad-have heard bad things recently though-bit of trouble.i forget where you are?

I pronounced it Lawn-cess-ton in a shop once when asking for directions. I got a very strange look. DH & I still laugh as we're driving from Plymouth to Hayle about all the different place names. Is St Austell really pronounced 'sozzle'?

Must add Mousehole to the interesting place names thread too! Sure it's not pronounced like that though!
