Hi, I’ve not tried Keto before so any advice welcome.

Anyone else just starting out, we could support each other.

I have been on the Keto diet since the 15th May and I am a novice at this really....
I honestly did not think I would/could lose any weight due to pre existing medical condition.
Anyway I have lost 19lbs as of today! I am only 5'2" so it's a dress size down for me...I need to lose at least another 30lbs.
I have had to reduce my calories intake to no more than 900 calories because I am unable to exercise...so I am really amazed that I have lost so much.
I don't eat anything after 7pm and don't eat anything before 10.30am to following day.
here's some examples of what I have been eating
I have keto granola with creme fraiche for breakfast(I used to have porridge and toast)
I also bought some Chia seeds to make chia pudding with coconut milk for breakfast
I have a chicken or egg salad(with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and celery)
Or chicken breast wrapped in bacon and green beans or cauliflower rice which you can have on Keto
I have stuck to two meals a day because I don't need all the calories
If I have had the odd snack it's been a celery stick and with a heaped teaspoon of Tesco cream cheese with garlic and that's been enough for me.
I have seen a change in my mind set about how I think about food and how much I need to eat.
Before I was having a lot of carbs(sandwiches etc) and my body just craved more carbs.
I did cut out sugar a few years ago and don't use sweeteners.
I can honestly say that I don't crave food like I used to and I am not finding it difficult at all to stick to it!
Good Luck tomorrow @JustMoved123 Grin

Thank you! That’s an amazing amount to lose, well done.

I’m 5’2” as well, I will have to brave the scales which I’m dreading but hopefully it’s the start of making me feel better about myself! I have tried intermittent fasting and I was ok with that so I’ll probably do that together with Keto.

Do you eat a lot of fat?

I'm starting today and am also 5'2! I have 2 teen boys at home so the quantity of food I have in in huge and I need to step away.

I need to lose around 10kg to get to 63kg and be healthier and happier with how I look. I'm going shopping today after I plan the weeks meals, I get analysis paralysis so need to give myself a time limit to plan, then just buy what's on my list.

I tend not to eat before about 12 and I'm going to stop at 8 to curtail evening snacking too.

Good luck Olaf, day one is over and it’s been ok. Thai green curry tonight which was lovely and I’m not hungry so that’s a bonus!

Let me know how you get on.

Hi, I can't believe we're all 5"2 for a start! All my friends are much taller, and my siblings strangely enough 😅. I haven't weighed myself for ages but I am 6 months postpartum and had to buy a new summer wardrobe as my maternity clothes are big but I don't fit into any of my size 8/10's. I ordered 14's and they fit comfortably but tbh would like to get down to a 10.

MsPepperPotts · 22/06/2020 22:02

Blimey we're all 5'2"...that's so funny
I have a target of 65kg in 6months, which means losing 26kg...weight gain caused by some hormone treatment that didn't work. I weighed 67kg before the treatment and 91kg after...what a nightmare!

In answer to @JustMoved123 question I have probably 50/50 on fat and protein/veg. Glad you got your first day out of the way too !

I have started having a day of eating a little bit more in calories once a week.... then fasting the following day with mainly fluids a coffee in the morning and cup of tea in the afternoon with plenty of water throughout the day.
@OlafLovesAnna I am lucky that living on my own I only need to buy food in for me. I had give away most of the food in my cupboards because none of it was suitable for Keto Diet. It's really difficult especially feeding hungry teenagers.
@LemonPeonies keep hold of your 8/10 wardrobe because you're going to need them soon Grin

May I join in? I'm also 5'2 and 61.2kg. I'm in my fourth week of keto and have lost 2lbs - I've tried keto/low carb before and the closer I get to 9st, the slower weight loss is. But I was 11st when I first started trying to lose weight so I know this woe works for me. I have chronic health issues so fairly sedentary but do try to walk when I feel well enough. I have 2 teenage boys and a husband, the three of them can eat anything and never put on an ounce.. it's very depressing! Grin

Welcome Daisychicken, I would love to be your weight! It’s always the last few pounds that are the hardest (so I believe!)

How’s everyone else getting on? I was hungry this morning, it was hard lasting to 1pm to eat but I made it and had chicken and avocado salad. Greek style meatballs for dinner which were very nice.

I’m currently living in Australia if it seems I reply/eat at strange times.

I'm not 5 foot 2, but I am attempting to start keto tomorrow! I hope that means I can still join the chat! 😁 I want to lose about 2 stone, mostly put on since March.

Thanks JustMoved123. You will get there, just keep persevering!

Regarding hunger, I found it best to eat when I felt hungry rather than intermittent fast to start with. Now my body has readjusted, I find IF much easier and I don't think about eating. What I did find in the first 2 weeks was if I let myself get too hungry, then I would feel nauseous and hungry most of the day despite eating. That made it harder not to give in and have something like toast or cereal.

I did record another 1lb off today so IF and keto is working 😁

Hey, I'm about three weeks in. I've fallen off the wagon a couple of times, briefly, but i think Ive been in ketosis at least some of the time as I've lost 8lbs in 3 weeks.

Still 9 stone 11 at 5'1'' so I'll keep doing it for a while.

Day three was the hardest for me! I had a headache all day and I took two nurofen and went to bed, then I dreamt about a coffee and walnut cake. I could taste how soft it was in the dream.

But on day four, I was ok, really felt ok, no cravings! A few times I've thought, hmmm what the hell can I actually eat that isn't egg. But I wasn't craving sugar thank god.

I did a 36 hour fast last wednesday (from tuesday night to Thursday morning( and it was easy because I am not used to so much butter and cheese and I felt a big [omg] saturated. Faturated. Ironic, cos I was losing weight. But that 36 hour fast was easy. Might do it again tomorrow actually. Make it a wednesday thing.

ha, you're all tall!

I wonder if it's because when you're 5'1, 5'2, every extra pound makes its presence known.

there's nowhere for a few twenty lockdown pounds to hide.

Hi all! Can I join?
I am a month in and have lost 11 pds. I could have lost a lot more but have had some wobbly days and then comfort ate.
My husband lost 3 stone on keto a few years ago and loves eating low carb so that helps.
I am not 5 ft 2 though..can I still join?? Smile

I do think keto is a brilliant way of eating though. I lost loads a few years ago. About 2 stone I think. But gained it back and more due to ill health

I have a great dessert hack if you need a sweet treat. Sugar free chocolate syrup (I use Waldon Farms)stirred into mascarpone cheese. Yum

Hi, welcome everyone, even those who are taller than 5”2!

I don’t know how to tag people but well done everyone, it certainly seems to be working, fingers crossed it will for us too. Starting day three and feeling ok with my lemon water for now :-)

Any Favourite meal ideas?

Good luck for today.

I do my normal meals eg bolognaise, chilli, curry, lamb casserole etc but serve them over a bed of veg. (Quite a lot) With a sprinkling of cheese if appropriate.
Also I do burgers with all the trimmings.. onions, bacon, cheese, pickles, mayo and serve in a lettuce wrap. Surprisingly good.

Thanks wildethings, that’s good to know, I’ve bought a couple of books and they do like the fat into the recipes which seems strange to me. Do you add much additional fat?
Also do you snack at all? That is my downfall of an evening.

wildthingsinthenight · 24/06/2020 14:42

Yes we need much more fat. It's high fat low carb eating. Cream in coffee and fry things in butter. I have coffee and cream every morning. I don't have my first meal til lunch as I'm not hungry til then.

Snack wise if I need to I have cheese slices, babybels, cold meats, a few nuts, pork scratchings, a square of dark chocolate.

Also a sugar free jelly with cream is good.
The fat seems odd I know Smile

daisychicken great news on the weight going in the right direction!

Thank you 😊

Another "treat" suggestion is sugar free jelly made up with half the water, let it cool slightly then beat in a tub of full fat cream cheese. I then decant the mix into small pots (think baby weaning food size) and let it set in the fridge. One pot either on its own or with berries & / cream is a real treat. Also travels well if you need lunchboxes.
