Hi all,

I'm going to start Keto again tomorrow. Tried for the first time a few weeks ago but felt dreadful after a week so I fell off the wagon - combo of Keto flu and period I think.

Anyone else venturing into Keto and fancy some support?

Hi, I was going to post a similar thread earlier when yours popped up in active convos!

Only on for a minute before bed now but dh and I will be starting Keto in the morning. We have tried once before but are really novices.

We have a few recipes to keep us going until we can broaden our menus and we’ve yet to really figure out the macros etc but we’re going for it.

Be back tomorrow for a catch up Smile

Excellent! Partners in bacon 🥓 😁

I'm all set with my fruit tea (because tea without sugar and proper milk is just ick), and ready for the day.

Something I learnt from last time - stay hydrated and if possible take decent supplements to replace the electrolytes and magnesium etc. Apparently makes such a difference.

Is anyone using carb tracker apps?

We can do this!!!!

Just starting the day with my coffee and coconut oil here 😆 I did an egg fast last week and dropped from 9st2 to 8st 13, and been eating keto since Friday, weighing in this morning at 8st12. Aiming for 8st6. I did a keto calculator thingie too find out my macros. Went over on fat yesterday, under on everything else. It's quite hard to figure out what to eat to in a day to get the humber right isn't it?! Also feeling quite bloated at the moment too, and struggling slightly with keto flu lethargy and headaches.

Today's menu is:

coffee fist thing
x2 poached eggs, x2 bacon and spinach for brunch with 2 cup almond milk
Snack half an avocado with pink himalayan salt (keto flu prevention!)
x2 lemon chicken thigh traybake with asparagus for tea and 2 squares of lindt 85% chocolate for desert (I've got such a sweet tooth!)

Also need to up my water intake.

Definitely need some menu ideas. Hoping once I build a 'portfolio' of manus with all the numbers worked out I can just cycle that without spending forever doing sums 😂

I want to do Keto, but am vegan. Does anyone else do this? Am trying to work out a meal plan. Is there a limit to the food you can eat or just the calories? Any good reads for absolute newbies? Sorry, am trying to figure out where to start....

There are plenty of vegan keto recipes out there, but I think it will be a case of having to be even more organised around meal planning etc. as will be a little more effort to meet your macros (nutritional 'goals') The premise of keto is low carb, moderate protein, high fat. I think the recommendation is not to worry about calories at first, just focus on your fats, carbs and proteins. Eating keto should reduce your appetite naturally over time as a the fats and protein leave you feeling fuller for longer, ergo a natural reduction in calories. Have a look at some keto blogs for recipes etc. and maybe put a few meal plans together before you start to maximise chances of success.

I've seen quite a few vegan Keto/paleo recipes around, and amazon have a few well rated vegan Keto books, which could help with it.

Meal ideas welcome here too! Tonight I'm planning steak, broccoli and salad.

Glad to see I'm not the only one drinking oily coffee - mine is MCT oil which I think is basically refined coconut. It's not too bad if you don't look at it!

Dh and I have been discussing the coffee. He’s been reading about bulletproof coffee which has butter in it and sounds absolutely ungodly!

My biggest problem is the maths. I wish someone would just work it all out for me. I get confused with percentages and grams. Maths was never a strong point. I must try a Keto app and see if it help. Assume I should only need a weighing scales then?

I’m also concerned about the fat intake. I’ve watched ‘magic pill’ on Netflix and fear somewhat lessened but I have history of embolus stroke so it does still scare me. That said, the fat I’m carrying and subsequent problems will also kill me if I don’t fix it so I just have to bite the bullet and put the health anxiety in the background.

For breakfast I had scrambled egg with spinach and cheese. It looked awful before it came together and I really didn’t think I’d like it but it was fab Smile Haven’t eaten since.

Have the dark chocolate in the fridge for my treat later with a cuppa.

Dh out shopping at the moment and the plan when he gets back is Keto bolognaise (sp?) eaten like tacos in lettuce leaves.

Has anyone tried any keto breads or wraps? Currently searching YouTube for a good one.

Oh and last thing - remember water, water and more water Smile

The number crunching is overwhelming me too thisisthelaststraw. I'm going to sit down tonight and try to compile a 3 or 4 days of an ideal keto menu and cycle that for a week or so until I can add a few more day menus. I'm also not going to stress too much about macros, I think provided I'm sticking to a couple of simple decent keto meals a day with protein, some good keto veg and cook/season with a nice dollop of oil or butter that will be fine!

A fab keto meal I had last night (in still salivating thinking about it!!) was two decent sized whole chicken legs (drumstick and thigh with skin on) with courgette slices, cherry tomatoes and button mushrooms topped with a good few glugs of olive oil, chopped chilli, salt, pepper, garlic and lime and eaten with mayo. Omg it was DIVINE. However as it was my 'Friday night' (kids with their dad and no work today) I made the mistake of having a couple of whiskys. Woke at 5am this morning DYING of a hangover. I'm usually such a robust drinker and rarely if ever get hangovers. Shocker!

That sounds delicious 😋

I’m starving today. Not literally but soooo hungry. Breakfast was bacon, egg and avocado. Ham and cheese as a snack. Small bit of egg mayo later and I’m having keto bolognese for tea.

We batch cooked a big pot and another pot of chickpea, spinach and chorizo soup.

I could eat everything in the fridge right now 😭

Hope you’re having a better day.

I don't understand the numbers yet but yesterday I had homemade vegan feta (tofu) with salad and cucumber, and a semi dried tomato, avocado, spring onion, cashew and vegan yeast salsa.

Tonight I had homemade 5 seed crackers, avocado and olives.

And gallons of lemon water

Weighed again this morning and on day 4 of 8st12. I was hoping I'd have dropped a couple of lbs this week. At least no gain. Here's hoping for a whoosh effect!

I have made these. I usually flavour with rosemary or sesame seeds. They hit the spot when you feel like crunching.

I'm having a bad day! I ate chocolate and had wine last night. I'm so annoyed with myself, and so is the scales which are showing 9st2!! It's the weight I started. And now I'm surely out of ketosis. Argh! I considered abandoning the diet and trying something else, but I want to stick with it and I want to see results. I'm certain I've felt better being on it and I've been sleeping so well too. Ordered some ketone test strips from amazon and I'm going to get back on the horse. How's everyone else getting on?

H!
If you need to work out your macros use the calculator on ruler me
www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/
I’ve been Keto almost a year and lost 5 stone I didn’t even realise I was carrying. I fall off every now and then but don’t stress about it. If it feels like deprivation or you punish yourself it’s hard to sustain. If I accidentally on purpose fall on a Big Mac and eat it I just start again making better choices at the next meal.

I downloaded the Carb Manager app earlier and feel better about keto already. I was finding the number crunching hard but the app works it all out and shows the figures and ratios in a clear simple way. I'm back on the keto wagon!

I've been trialling Keto (low carb) for about 6 mths & have just cracked the 10kg loss bar, yay!! It took me a few weeks - like 8 or 9 - to get back on track from Xmas, but this is for the long haul.
Im sure that others too feel so much better eating this way - but my post is to say too that its impt to stay organised. Its too easy to fall off the wagon when others in your family may not be doing this WOE. One recipe I've found recently is for a 250gm tub of cream cheese (NOT the spreadable sort, just original) softened, then mixed with a 10g packet of Weight Watchers jelly. You might need to put it in the fridge for a bit to not be too runny, but roll them into teaspoon ish size balls, then roll in coconut - & there you have a stash of yummy fat bombs to tide you over about 3pm before you need to start thinking of dinner ideas - & snacking.

Hello all, can I join you please.

I am not exactly doing keto but am doing zero pasta/rice/sugar/bread etc. I haven't had any of that for about a month. I've lost a couple of kg but am hoping to lose around 10kg more.

Great to see some like minded people! I met a lady last night who has lost 9kg on Keto and reversed her problematic sugar levels - that inspired me to keep going :)
