Keto for bad pms and hypothyroidism

Hi

Has anyone found keto helps for severe pms or hypothyroidism? I am mainly wanting to lose weight with keto, it's worked before, however I didn't do it long enough to notice if it helped with my bad hormones or thyroid issues... Just wondered if anyone had any experience of this?

TIA

Tranzishions are you doing the autoimmune paelo diet? I am hypothyroid and have been reading about it. My son’s girlfriend has PCOS and maybe this could be a good solution for her too.

I started keto for bad PMS and feeling menopausal in my early 40s

A year in I am transformed. PMS exists still in the sense I am a bit hungrier, slightly more tired but I am certainly not a write off for a few days a month and I have NO anger or irritability at all!

I have found it life changing

Although I would say that it took a good few cycles for it all to settle down. I had a 6 week (light) bleed on cycle 2, but even so, I was having so many other benefits from cutting out carbs such as increased energy, mental focus and better sleep that it felt like my body knew what it was doing. I have since read that you will go through a 'healing phase' once you cut out carbs and your hormones start to regulate without the insulin dominance, and that seems to be true from my perspective.

I am actually Day 1 of my cycle today and I barely noticed my PMS other than some increased hunger. The change this represents from my pre-keto days is indescribable.

Hypothyroidism can increase cholesterol and fat levels, so keto isn’t ideal. Talk to your GP prior to trying keto. The best PCOS diet is low processed carb, low sugar (inc fruit), high ‘natural’ carb (vegetables etc), with normal fat / protein percentages.

That is keto!

Cholesterol is a really disputed area at the moment - statins in particular and the HARM they do seems to far outweigh the benefits

I am not a doctor but this guy is...he's worth checking out how he treats his patients with low carb dieting twitter.com/lowcarbGP/status/852537591706656768

Cholesterol (and it’s associated conditions including heart failure) isn’t disputed with people with hypothyroid disorders.

Really encouraging posts, I’m butting in but also terrible pmt since turning 40 (worsened when stopped breastfeeding six years ago). Started low carb (sort of jumped on and off as wasn’t sure if I was convinced it was “healthy”) but will now continue.

Op you have my sympathies also terrible pmt here and considered having a hysterectomy it was so bad.

I used Paleo when I went menopausal. It helped to eliminate hot flushes and my body didnt ache and my skin glowed and I felt amazing. When I add in refind sugar now I get such a negative response and feel so so awful. The other benefit is weight loss that is simple really. I dont diet but eat low carb paleo and weight comes off slowly but stays off.

Agree about cholesterol not being the marker they thought it was.
