Every year I’ve lost and gained 40-70 lbs and now it’s effected my body as I lose weight slowly
Alone in 2016 I lose 4 & /2 stone regained
2017 I lost 3 stone regained

This year I’ve lost and regained the same stone 2 times

I do go back to keto I yoyo as life is hard and I need to work with my head more

So I’m looking for any keto buddies ?

I had 60 lbs to lose I’ve lost 9 lbs in 9 days but that’s mainly water on keto

Anyone need a buddy ?

I'm interested. Have a stone and half to lose. Can you briefly explain the rules?

Report
Kursk · 30/06/2018 15:37

I believe the rules are no sugar and minimal carbs

I'm in - been doing keto for 4 weeks and lost 6lbs (just have about 80lbs to go tho) mainly due to faffing and having weekends off. Ready to knuckle down now!

Feels like a massive hurdle, I lost 4.5 stone last year with slimming world but nearly all of it went back on - so far keto is the only thing that curbs my sugar cravings.

Just had some spinach and mozzarella with pesto warmed up and mixed together, delicious :)

I’ve been 6 months keto.
Under 20g carbs for pretty much the whole time. Apart from wine 🙄

I wasn’t particularly overweight but I’ve lost a stone and am very lean now.

But better than weight loss is all the other stuff....masses of energy, less irritable, sleeping so deeply, mental focus, bleeding gums disappeared, clear skin, amazing concentration.

I’ll never be a carb zombie again

Check out the websites dietdoctor.com and ruledme.com

They have all the info on it

YouTube also has loads of vids. And podcasts...a few good keto podcasts

Thanks all will read up on it. How easy is it eating out and on the go? Alcohol will be my downfall

Report
mooncuplanding · 30/06/2018 16:20

It’s really easy eating out!

There is always meat and veg on a menu! Even if it’s a burger without the bun. The thing is your appetite goes down substantially and you never really experience that “I must eat now” type of hunger anymore. Instead I often think, ahhhh I’ll wait til I’m home.
I’ve naturally got to a point where I eat OMAD (one meal a day)
I know it sounds insane and ED like when you are used to carb hunger, but I’ve not eaten since 6 last night right now and I’m only just starting to get hungry ( I had an especially high fat and big meal of pork chopS, cauliflower cheese and asparagus). Big portion, loads of fat, hardly any carbs.

I could still take or leave food at this moment but will eat later...going out and will prob have steak with creamy sauce and veg.

On the alcohol thing....dry white wine, spirits etc. are ok

BUT you get pissed instantly

Sounds great do you find energy drop st the start? I'm in the middle of writing a masters dissertation at the moment and need energy / focus

Keto Flu is real, yes!

Withdrawal and adaptation takes 2-8 weeks. You won’t feel horrendous for that whole time but a few days - a week are pretty grim.

Take electrolytes!!!

Thanks for replying yes keto is a strict low carb plan
Veg has carbs so you have choose the lower carb ones

As said your hunger goes so you eat little =
Weightloss

Eating only in a small daily time span = better fat loss as when we eat it triggers our insulin = fatloss slows or stops so fasting is good when fat adapted

I agree it’s not just good for weightloss it cures lots ailments
I have chronic ibs d on keto it’s 90% better

I know people who have reversed diabetes 2 on keto

I just wanted a section on low carb for keto buddies we can just support each other meal and food ideas help with keto flu and exercise ideas ?
Also life support when us yoyoers struggle 😁

I will join you. I have six stones to lose in total, but hoping for three off this year or by Christmas.

I did low-carb two years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. Hard at first then once I got into Ketosis the sheer energy, blissful sleep and mental clarity was astonishing. I started adding in very highly nutritious foods to my diet, so I would have spinach soup with Spirulina powder and coconut cream, and things like no-carb bread made from milled linseed and eggs. I think the combo of low-carb and tons of superfood turbocharged all the effects. I also stopped getting ill and my joints stopped hurting. I could walk without getting out of breath. This wasn't weight loss effects, this was almost instant recovery from whatever the hell carbs are doing to my general health.

I am so mad at myself for ending it. I did so well. How it started was that I found I could have nachos on a weekend without kicking me out of ketosis. I then gradually started experimenting with how far I could go adding in a few nasty carbs here and there and in no time at all I was savaging the cake aisle in Sainsbury's on a regular basis.

I believe I have wheat intolerance, and both of my kids show signs. I know that when I kick bread out of my diet my stomach flattens, i have more energy and I stop with the chronic farting. I need to stay low-carb for my health. I know it's the diet for me and I would love this time to be a new way of life for me rather than yet another failed attempt to lose weight.

I'm on week 4, lost 7 lbs first week then gained as was on holiday and having too much wine (although still eating keto). I find it easy as it kills your sugar and carb cravings. So much you can eat and all great stuff like cheese! and meat! I am not doing it only for weight loss (1 stone target loss only) but also for brain health as there is strong links to improved outcomes with anxiety, depression, ADHD and other autoimmune disease. Watch the Magic Pill on Netflix or you tune it explains more on the science. Basically Carbs and gluten are the biggest risk to public heatlh. Sugar is a type of carb. Sugar is obviously bad and highly addictive and so are carbs even wholewheat carbs. Also recommend Grain Brain book to explain more. Loads of health benefits to this way of eating. I don't see it as a diet more a change of the way I eat for life.

I've been looking into this a lot recently but have been haven't had the motivation to start. I have a toddler so having lots more natural energy would be really benifical. The lossing some weight would also be a great bonus.

@dimsumtime

Wow that sounds amazing. I've yet to reach "fat adapted" and reached the nirvana of mental clarity - hoping this time round I can stick at it!!

@tibradden please share your meal plans with us, I'm always up for inspiration!

I've had tuna mayo salad with Edam crackers (just cut up slices of Edam from the supermarket and baked until golden- they go lovely and crispy)

Also any tips for beating the carb/sugar cravings? I'm climbing the walls, worst they've ever been. So far stayed strong. How long was it til you stopped getting them??

Report
dimsumtime · 03/07/2018 15:57

It was a few weeks before I completely stopped craving properly. If I was going to fail and I needed relief, I had Atkins bars on standby and they did the trick by taking the edge off. I know it's not recommended but I thought I would rather have a bit of sweetener than cave in altogether and binge on Haribo and Chinese. They have between 2 and 4 net carbs in per bar, and IMHO the Chocolate Raspberry and Chocolate Brownie are amazing. The Brownie bar is huge and filling. They are expensive but great for emergencies. After a few weeks you'll find you don't need them.

👋🏻 hi, I am following a Keto diet, I've lost 10lbs so far over 3 weeks, I lost 3 stone a few years ago doing it, but fell off the wagon, this time I am determined to stay with it!
My heartburn and constant burping (classy!) has totally disappeared and I find I'm just not really hungry.
I need to lose a lot I weight but I am happy and positive that I am doing something about it.

Hi I've just started low carb a couple of days ago. I'm vegetarian and thought I'd really struggle as I've always eaten loads of bread and pasta. I bought the Rose Elliot vegetarian low carb diet book and it's given me loads of inspiration.
I have always been a size 8/10 but in the past 18 months I've gone to a size 12/14 so keen to get about a stone off I think.
