Getting back on the Wagon....

Hello (again) all,

I’m back with my tail between my legs.

Earlier this year I gave up my lifelong carb addiction, and I mean serious carbs. I mainlined bread and potatoes.

I did Biwis boot camp back in February March time I think. And it was a revelation. I lost two stone in a couple of months, went out running or to the gym most days, felt amazing....thought I’d never go back to carby twatdom.

And then....

The running slowed off...I got busy...it was too hot for the gym.

Then in the summer ten days at an all inclusive activity centre, stuffing carbs for every meal.

I’d made permanent changes to my woe...so I didn’t need to worry too much about carby meals here and there did I?

But it was just day after bad carby day.

I kept promising myself I’d get back to it. Won’t go above 70kg...definitely not...or not 71 anyway.

And my Size 12 jeans were tight, so now I’m back in some higher waisted ones...but today I looked at the label and realised they are size 14-16 Asda wonder Jeans.

I don’t want to be fat again. Shock

I lost loads of weight off my boobs and thighs, and that’s not reappearing...but I swear I’ve got a tyre appearing round my waist. I’ve got to get a grip.

Every day for the last couple of weeks it’s been a new start....but by mid afternoon it goes horribly wrong. Then evenings I’m back to foraging in the cupboards for anything sweet or carby, and never just one biscuit or chocolate...because obviously I’m going back on the wagon tomorrow so it’s my last gasp of carby twatdom. But tomorrow never comes, does it.

Help....

GG

I feel your pain, I need a massive kick up the arse to lose 1/2 st before Xmas. I’ve just eaten a cinnamon bun from Asda 😫

It’s super hard! I’m trying to get back on the wagon but it’s hard. I’ve had to just drastically reduce my carbs. So I try to eat nothing processed but I might have a slice or two of bread per day.

That will be the next thing to go but that will mean I need to manage my cravings which is so hard at the moment

Not to mention when I did get on the wagon about two months ago the carb flu made me feel like death and after five days I relapsed big time!!

I’m wondering whether to try and cheat my way back to it by filling the fridge with low carb cheesecake and brownies and protein rolls etc, and just stuffing myself silly when the carbs are calling....but all low carb, if you get what I mean.

Oh, and the thought of Christmas terrifies me. If I don’t sort myself out before the Christmas eating season begins, I bet I’ll have put on every last pound back by January.

Greengoose no words of wisdom but totally me too! I feel your carby pain! Let's make a plan. I also notice my moods go to hell when I eat too much crap - I am so much calmer and happier when my carbs are from veg and not bread etc.

I think you're probably right @MacaroonMama not so much with moods for me, but definitely sleep.

I am absolutely clear that a life of carby twatdom has been the cause of all sorts of things....low carbing I lost weight, skin cleared up, blood pressure down, energy up, digestive system better, slept well.....and didn't have this horrendous gut. I'm equally clear that carbs are completely addictive....which is why I can't manage to low carb beyond about 3.30pm at the moment, before relapsing horrendously.

The addiction is frightening @Greengoose, it really is. I have just eaten two mince pies with my first cup of tea of the day Blush Confused - #justcallmecarbytwat

That is my weak point too, afternoon, after the school run, when the kids are grizzly and tired, and I really need five minutes peace.

I know exactly what you mean about making lots of low-carb treats so if I need to eat at least it isn't total sabotage. And I need to make some low-carb bread. Eggs without bread make me feel a bit sick!

Is your focus health? I think mine should be otherwise I get caught up in numbers on the scale, and how fat my tummy looks.

Hope you have a good day, full of coconut oil and broccoli Wink

It's awful, isn't it?

My only advice to you would be to make sure that you just don't have anything in the house that's going to tempt you.

The other thing I'd suggest, if you haven't already tried it, is to do some reading about low carb and its longer term health benefits, beyond weight loss. That's what keeps me - mostly - focused.

Two mince pies for breakfast sounds precisely like the kind of thing I'd do. I can't ever stop at one of anything.

@macaroonmama I didn't have any joy with the various low carb bread recipes I tried. They were gross. I do rather love the Lidl Protein Rolls at 11g carb, but I can easily eat two of them. My best treat was low-carb brownies, eaten with a few berries and cream. That felt very indulgent, so I think I'll whip up a batch tomorrow.

I've actually not been too bad today. Scrambled egg and mushroom for breakfast, chicken and cauliflower for dinner, jelly and cream for a treat. If I could just shake off the couple of no-added-sugar biscuits, two spoonfuls of mashed potato, handful of chips, chunk of fresh pineapple and other things I mineswept from the kids as I was plating up tea.

@biwi I read absolutely loads on the health benefits earlier in the year - believe me, I am completely sold on low carb. It really did change my life (thanks in no small part to you I must say Flowers).

One of the things that has really done for me is that I've been doing charity work that involves exposure to an awful lot of carbs. Pastries, Cakes, Soft Fruits - you name it, I'm surrounded by them. Temptation is ever present. Sad

NazaninN appears to have only joined MN today and has spammed about 60 threads in Weightloss with the same message. I have reported this poster to MNHQ as spam.
