Low-carb diets

1 year in, 3 stone down, *still* craving sugar!

The title says it all, I have lost 43 lbs over 14 months and the sugar craving is still so bad.

After I eat, in the evenings I crave something sweet, I distract myself, I keep it in check but I thought it was supposed to go?

I've even tried hypnotherapy, managed to lose another 70 £££ 😂😂😂 made no difference at all.

Honestly think I'm running out of will power and scared I'm just going to put it all back on. 😕

And toast, I really miss toast.

Anything else I can do?

43lbs? I am in awe. You can obviously ignore those cravings, because you've done an amazing thing!
Keep on keeping on. There's some great support threads on here where everyone helps one another, and gives encouragement, would something like that help.
I think it's perfectly normal to still crave things we were addicted to, even years after we've given them up.

I'm somewhat the same. I've lost 8 stone and I find my triggers are literally anything with sugar. Carrots for example give me horrid cravings. The only way I can get rid of them is eating below 20g I'd carbs, sometimes less, a day. I can't eat anything with artificial sweeteners as it triggers them again and I end up eating much more than I should.

I bet there's something you're eating that's triggering it. Medication with sugar? Multivitamins with corn starch. You'd be surprised where it's lurking!!

Do you allow yourself to have something sugary as long as it's within your calorie allowance, or would something sugary trigger a huge binge?

Thanks for the replies.

I've done weeks of hard core nothing sweet at all and weeks of less strictness. I love baking and cooking so I've made low carb treats with stevia and erythritol (sp?). But I was just hoping that over time I'd stop missing the sweet stuff.

It doesn't help that the 3 other people in this house (quite reasonably, because they are all healthy weights) continue to eat the sweet stuff. So I can't eliminate it from my environment.

Realistically if this is going to be an actual WoE not a diet I'm not going to be able to sustain the will power, it feels like it's a finite commodity!

I love grenade bars they are not idea but low sugar alcohol so they don't trigger my sugar addiction and you can only have one as they give you terrible wind!!

I'm silmilar a year in and would at times love to dive into a lasagne but grenade bars only occasionally help. White choc in the fridge are awesome

So is the general thinking that I'm stuck with this and it's never going to go? Because I know I'll slip back eventually in that case.

I love baking so I can happily make my own low carb treats but I was hoping that eventually I would just lose interest.

I don't seem to have triggers, even if I keep my carbs very low I'm still missing the sweet stuff.

Ooo yeah sugar alcohols effect me the same way sugar does in terms of keeping the sugar addiction alive and kicking and making me crave.

The only solution I've found is to avoid all sweet things.

These are lovely and sweet and only use fruit and honey.
I've made them with mangos and pineapple and just strawberries on their own. Very easy and tasty. Non processed etc. don't know if you'd want to avoid as natural sugars are quite high but I think you're better off controlling it and having it in a more natural way every few weeks or months than constantly craving something sweet!

Try not to restrict yourself too much,
That causes me and most people I know to fall off the wagon in a big way.
Maybe have a treat meal? I'm not big on treat days tbh as that just encourages you to gorge all day and you can do a lot of "damage" that way. But have something like fruit rolls once a week, maybe a bit of cheese on toast the next week etc?
Do an extra walk, swimming session or work out the day before or after to make up for it?

Thanks Queen but honestly if I'm going to give in and have a treat I'd rather stick to my 90% chocolate which is much lower carb. On a low carb diet sugar is sugar irrespective of the source so concentrated fruit sugar and honey are to be avoided.

Sounds like you are doing brilliantly. StarStarStar

Sugar is a poor food in so many ways. I think avoiding it completely seems a good idea. Can you still eat fruit?

Just don’t eat any sugar at all.

Fudge made from boiled cream and butter with a little bit of 70% dark chocolate? Or little frozen ice cube shapes made of cream and a low carb fruit? Brainstorming here - these may be technically wrong!
