LC and menstrual cycle

Can LC affect your cycle? I seem to remember reading it can throw things awry and tonight I've been cramping like I'm due on, but am only mid way through my cycle. I have slightly long cycles (34-36 days) in case that's relevant.
If it does, does anyone know the science behind it?

I was wondering something similar. On prog. only pill, periods stopped last year. Started low curbing at beginning of week and just came on. Coincidence, maybe, but intriguing.

It did affect my cycle and my periods lasted longer. For some reason and it might be a complete coincidence but my pmt improved dramatically. I've just started low carbing again this week, although I had weetabix on Thursday morning as I was on automatic pilot and made breakfast without thinking !

I started LC a month ago.
I'm on the mini pill and haven't had a period for over 2 years.
This week I've come on.
I'm most put out!

I think it's something to do with oestrogen being stored in your fat, so when you start losing the fat your oestrogen levels go out of kilter.

So it's a good sign - means you're losing the fat!

Hopefully StuntNun or someone more scientifically knowledgeable then me will be along to explain soon. Grin

I hadn't even realised there had been any replies, sorry for disappearing.
Well, ovulation pains and bloat kicked in after I posted so it was ov related, not AF. I've never had ov cramps before. Will keep an eye on my cycle over the next few months to see if it shortens as a result of LC. I used to have 28 day cycles, clockwork, but they've gotten longer over time.

It hugely improves things for me - less PMS and a more regular cycle.

I've been low carbing (boot camp) for 4 weeks now and I'm 10 days late. No cramps, no sore boobs. TBH, I'm not bothered if I never get another period again since I've finished having DC.

LCing gave me the heaviest and longest periods of my life. Had a coil fitted in the end.

This is quite interesting to read. I had a total hysterectomy last year, havent really had too much problems with menopause apart from cold night sweats. Just this last week i've had some breast tenderness similar to when i was about to menstruate. Wonder if its connected to LC

As BIWI says, there is oestrogen stored in your fat cells so when you start losing weight it is released. It can take a couple of months for your hormone levels to stabilise again. Some people experience mid-cycle bleeding. Some people with a coil or on the pill have breakthrough bleeding. Some people at the start of menopause have a period. It will settle down after a while. LCing can prevent or reduce PMS and menstruation pain and helps some people with menopausal symptoms.
