Low-carb diets

Has anyone else had a bad reaction to a cheat day?

I have been low carbing since 4th January and lost 15lbs so really pleased. In all that time I have been so good- no cheat days not even a wiff of a cheat item.
It was my birthday yesterday and I also happened to be on a training course for work so I allowed myself one day off.
Here is what I ate:

Lunch : 1 slice pizza, 1/4 chicken sandwich, 2 onion bajis, slice of vegetable quiche, piece if breaded chicken and some potatoe wedges.

Dinner: chicken pasty bought by my lovely dad followed by a slice of my mum's amazing chocolate cheesscake.

drinks: 5 cups of tea
2 cups of water (usually I have 8)
1 peppermint tea
1 1/2 glasses rose.

All very nice and enjoyable. But I was so ill last night I ended up going to bed early. I was feeling nauseous, sweaty, my forehead was dripping. I just had to get in the bed and go to sleep.

Is this a bad reaction to the day off do u think? Has anyone else experienced it?. Still not feeling too great this morning if I'm honest.

Can I just say that lunch sounds an awful lot but it was only one small plate full, just reads loads.

Not experienced this but that doesn't sound like a huge amount of food. Are you sure you're not just ill there's a lot of bugs like you describe about at the minute?

I have been low carb/ketogenic for a long time now and I did the same thing one Christmas. Just thought what the hell and went for it! I was soooo ill the next day and it took about 5 days to get back to normal. Needless to say I haven't done it since. It was like a 5 day hangover! I think once you are properly fat burning your body doesn't take kindly to a whole shed load of glucose. Its a bit like putting diesel in a petrol car! Grin

Cheat days are fairly common on some LC plans, mostly ones for keen athletes, but you will find that they don't actually mean to eat every carb on the table and wash it down with wine! lol They do tend to look at one carby item at one meal in the day and usually before or after a load of exercise.

Lots of us been there and learned the hard way!

You really over killed a cheat it's meant to be one thing like a chocolate bar or a pizza not all day. No wonder your feeling Off bless you take care hope your feeling better soon

I find adding in real food carbs eg lamb biryani doesn't cause a problem, but pizza causes horrific symptoms like those you've mentioned.
