Low carb eating out

Quite new to low-carbing.
I find this way of eating easier to stick to if I plan in advance. With that in mind, I'm spending a few days an a couple of different UK cities in the next few weeks and will be eating out. What chain restaurants have things suitable for low-carbers? And is it easy enough in other places to have a burger without the bun or a roast without the potatoes and gravy? Will that do the job ok? Are there any hidden things I need to look for in food I'm not cooking myself?

I always try to check menus online, as lots of chains gave nutritional info. I also choose things where things can be left off or substituted. I sometimes take homemade salad dressing as a big salad can be a great option and they slather it with carby dressing.

If I'm finding it difficult to eat low carb, I will choose a lower fat option. It's probably not a correct approach, but I figure that way I am doing less damage!

I went on holiday for a couple of weeks and ate moderately with some puddings. I had put on 3 lb when I came back but list it very quickly and 2 weeks on I am 5 lb down. I had been stalling before so I am very happy - a bit of a break can kick things off in a good way.

I'm not a low carber but on the hay diet so I don't eat carbs with protein. I find most places are happy to swap the carbs for more veg or salad instead when asked. So typical meals are steak anf salad, fish and mushy peas, grilled fish and veg. The only places that tend to be tricky are pizza/pasta restaurants or Indian/Chinese type.places that need rice/bread.

I used to find when low carbing that the local Chinese would replace rice on a menu with beansprouts. It's always worth asking.

I am happy to ask if e.g. I can have the steak with broccoli/spinach/salad or whatever green veg is on their side orders instead of chips and most places are perfectly happy to do that.

Tandoori chicken and salad works well in an Indian restaurant. Thai is tricky as there is very often quite a bit of sugar in sauces. Even most pizza chains etc do offer main course salads.

I love cauliflower bhaji in an Indian restaurant, much nicer than rice and I tested my blood sugars afterwards and it did not affect me. Have a look at some of the other veggies too?

When I go to my Cantonese restaurant I just opt for the meat dishes. Ribs, prawns, duck, chicken etc. Yes they have some sauce but I only eat what's on the meat. Indian is Tandoori king prawns or Chicken or Tikka Chicken with salad or veg.

Omelettes are always a good low carb option when eating out.
