How can I shake this sugar habit?

I find not eating "white" things generally fine. I'm in the lucky position of not liking rice and pasta, and I can skip potatoes and bread. However, since being pregnant with DD (now 10m) I have developed a ridiculous sweet tooth. I seem to crave sweet things after every meal. How can I overcome it? I've tried will power, but I just sit there thinking about it, and end up eating fruit. I'm guessing fruit isn't good?

it's a bugger isn't it? i think it's partly habit (sweet following savoury), but also the sweet taste and the effect of the sugar on the body is thought to be addictive

if you're trying to eat a low carb diet then no, fruit isn't really a good option

at least part of it is getting into the habit of not having sweet things, so a certain amount of willpower is required sadly! some strategies can help - cleaning your teeth straight after the meal (this really helps me); changing your routine (easier said than done when you have a sleeping baby and can't exactly go for a walk round the block, i know, but i knit in the evenings which keeps my hands busy); eating a piece of cheese - for some reason something like very mature cheddar seems to help

other people have taken chromium which i believe is supposed to help combat sugar cravings but i have never tried this

no help here, sorry, just, in the same situation... I end up eating the kids' dried fruit treats! watching to see any good tips.

I find a teaspoon of double cream satisfies that sweet craving without actually being sweet iyswim.

I had a dreadful chocolate addiction, a bar of G&B almond a day. I really needed to stop so I did the low carb boot camp and found that it really readjusted my palate. I couldn't eat more than a few squares now without feeling ill from the sweetness.

I found I was exactly the same after my last baby (nearly 2).

It has definitely tapered off since I stopped drinking coke and generally eating shit.

Whipped double cream on strawberries (or other berries - they are lower carb than other fruits) is a nice dessert.

help here so rry i love kids sweets well anything with suger i need it all the time so im watching this with intetest x

I have a dreadful sugar addiction, it began while pregnant with ds2 (who is now 18mths). I'm still breastfeeding and I just crave it all the time but really want to eat more healthy. No idea where to start though.

I think you have to commit to a horrid week of carb flu. Once you are past this week your cravings will probably be gone but will come back if you go back to having lots of sugar. Drink tea and coffee (no milk sad as sweet taste will continue cravings) so that its not coupled with caffine withdrawl. The odd microwaved emergency sweetpotato with butter and cinamon can help but dont think thats allowed on boot camp (about 20 g carb in one). You can add cimanon to coffee too for subtle sweetness all about cinnamon. I need to do this too, was given a box of lovely dark chocolate truffles and finding it hard to resist!
