Does this way of eating affect your cycle? I have read a few conflicting things on the Internet. Could it make your periods late or early or even last longer?

I'd be interested to hear
people's experiences Smile

I hadnt had periods in over 10 years before starting this woe (because of my contraceptives) but now I do ... weirdly! I get spotting once a month now. I read that its your fat cells releasing eostrogen as they disaapear,.

It has affected mine - cycle used to be very regular and now cycles are all over the place, might be age related though as I'm early forties.

Secondsop · 12/08/2013 14:17

It's regulated mine. In fact I credit it with enabling me to get pregnant with my son.

blackaffronted re oestrogen, I wonder if that's why my boobs seem fuller?

HerBigChance · 12/08/2013 16:05

Oh that's interesting, I've noticed the same. My periods are still as regular as clockwork, though.

It regulated mine to a 28 day cycle. Made them slightly heavier, but with less pain. NO PMT at all, this was the best bit.

FrameyMcFrame · 12/08/2013 21:21

Interesting, so far I haven't been doing it for long enough to know how it will affect mine. I have awful pms and quite irregular periods so I'll be glad it this regulates it :)

Wierd - last two cycles I have had mid-cycle bleeding (am on the pill). I wonder if that is why?

HolgerDanske · 26/08/2013 16:39

I have been very low carbing for three weeks now and my period was almost painless and I hardly suffered with PMS, whereas I'm usually pretty bad in the days leading up.

TwllBach · 26/08/2013 16:43

I have been low carbing for about three and a half months and also cutting out as much refined sugar as possible. My periods have been practically painless since I started, which is amazing, considering I have vomited and fainted from the pain before now. They may well be slightly more regular as well, but I also have PCOS so I'm not too sure...

Jelly15 · 27/08/2013 07:54

I am in my mid forties and I am now regular, lighter and have no PMS since starting low carb.

chartreuse · 27/08/2013 08:08

I started low carbing in the hope of easing awful PMT, and it worked! It has made a huge difference to my life.

Secondsop · 29/08/2013 00:47

My most recent period (after low carbing for 4 months) was virtually painless and also much more manageable flow-wise (they used to be really heavy for a couple of days, unmanageably so). Re the hormonal effects generally, I think I've always been very insulin resistant and/or had PCOS but recently one of the symptoms of insulin resistance, darkened skin around the neck, has significantly lessened for me.
