Low-carb bootcamp

Low Carb Bootcamp Ordinaire - Week 3

BIWI · 08/06/2020 07:15

Morning all!

The start of a brand new week. Hopefully it will be a better week - emotionally/psychologically - for us all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your progress.

Hopefully we've all had a good couple of weeks, food and weight wise.

Be warned that we're now in week 3. Many, many, many low carbers (not just Bootcampers) find that the weight loss can slow or stop in this week (and also week 4)

If this happens to you DON'T PANIC! If you've been losing so far, then you know it works. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on) and things will get going again soon.

Good luck to us all [ flowers]

Thanks for the new thread BIWI Flowers . Just 1.2lb off for me and 7lb overall. Was showing lower before the weekend, but two glasses of wine on Saturday and a few too many snacks on a zoom call yesterday have took their toll. Lesson learned - or maybe not Grin

Hope everyone has a good week.

... and remember, folks, that Bootcamp rules still apply this week. We haven't moved on to Bootcamp Light yet.

Thanks BIWI
I am utterly thrilled to report another 3lb loss this week making half a stone all told..
I have been still doing 16:8 except yesterday when I woke so hungry I just couldn't focus after a couple of hours even with my usual coffee so broke the fast early.. but eggs and smoked salmon sorted that..
Ihave had a few carby veg - carrot and peppers and also a few kidney beans in chilli on Friday, but apart from that stuck to low carb rules.
and 2 weeks of no wine no alcohol ...really pleased with this as its been pretty much18 months since ive managed a day without wine.

So week 3 begins! Im sticking with 16 :8 and my goal is to at least stay the same given the warning above ( but if I can edge down another pound or two that would be so fab)

Hi all,

Thanks @biwi for the new thread and all the hard work you and others are putting in!

I will get in bright and early and report a 1.2lbs loss. I know it doesn't sound like a huge amount but I am happy with that. That's 5lbs all together so far. It DOES feel like a small amount for the amount of effort I put in BUT I am not moving around as much as usual (I usually do the gym AND a good 10k steps a day) due to current lifestyle changes which I am sure must usually help a bit. But as long as it keeps going in a downward direction that's good.

I started off around 147lbs (66kg) and am now around 142 (64.25kg). I would like to be 132 (60kg) so still 10lbs/around 4.5kg to go. The kilos sound much more manageable than the pounds for some reason!

I'm 5'5 if anyone's interested. I always like to know what height people are.

Good luck with the week ahead everyone!

A pound up for me but I 100% know why. Was showing a loss earlier in the week and then got very sloppy as was very low and I’m an emotional eater. But onwards and downwards- need to drink more water and plan a bit better this week. Good luck everyone!

Morning!

4lbs off for me this week. Given it was nothing last week, I'm very happy with that.

(It was 5lbs yesterday, but overdid the yoghurt and double cream in a massive helping of creamed spinach - and I know I'm sensitive to too much dairy).

Also - now down 2" off bust, 1" off waist, and 1" off hips. Given my silhoutte remains the same, that must mean I'm also losing width off the bits I haven't been measuring as well.

Next goal: under the next half stone which is 3lbs to go.

@Freetodowhatiwant, I'm 5.5 or so I always thought. Last time a Dr measured me I was only 5.4 though Shock. Hope I was just slouching a bit. Starting weight was 140 - my happy weight (where all my effing clothes are) is around 117/119, but then I've a really spindly frame (tiny wrists, hands and feet).

I am SO looking forward to getting out of these fat jeans and into my other trousers Grin

@BIWI
Thanks. Yes. I have been thinking how best to manage this issue. I know salt is always an issue for me. I need loads. My bug problem is dairy is not good for me, it completely scrambles my system and can lead me to crash as I described. If I could, I’d just supplement with that tbh. I’m okish with unpasteurised cheese in small quantities but I’m largely staying away from it unless desperate for fat. But yes, you are right.

WRT what fat I can eat, it’s coconut oil, coconut yoghurt, eggs and meat fat. I am struggling to cook more than once a day for me as I need to cook for dd when I’m able. So I am concentrating on eating a stir fry for breakfast - plenty of oil and Dh helpfully decided to eat my salami... I have plenty more from the delivery now. So that will help, I’m sure.

Apart from the sugar issue, I am a very intuitive eater and know my body well. With meat, I get cravings, which last a few weeks and switch. Atm that is prawns and they are low fat, which is why I particularly need the salami. Am not into steak or bacon at all for example. I know it will switch again. But I couldn’t stomach those right now.

Eating super strict meals isn’t going to work for me. It’s hopefully a bump I need to go through. With my current energy levels, I am thinking bootcamp light is for me so that I can eat nuts. I’ve got some salted pistachios and unsalted Brazil nuts but looking online, it’s super easy to make them salted. So I think I’ll do that today and see how I get on. It’s a juggling act as they actually may be too heavy for me.

And my health conditions are chronic fatigue, chronic pain, fibro. I also have a big incisional hernia, which is very very tiring and creating a lot of crashes.

Ha @Athelstane I always worry I might be shorter too. I DID used to say I was 5'6 though so I think 5'5 might be accurate. I guess I should measure myself. It's funny when reading about weight loss online I always want to know how tall people are. I guess there's often no point in comparing but it just helps me with my own journey. I have been as low as 8 stone 10 (122lbs) as an adult ten years ago after doing low carb and becoming gym obsessed and as high as 76kg (166 lbs maybe?) at the height of my then uncontrolled under active thyroid which was thankfully a long time ago now although it sometimes does randomly go out of whack and I have to increase my meds.

I'm hoping for 132lbs - 60kg as I managed that last summer - but anything close to that would be great. Sounds like you're doing really well!

Thanks BIWI for the new thread.

I haven’t had ahem the necessary bodily function to weigh this morning so I’ll record Saturday’s weigh in which was 3lbs so 7lbs overall. Joining a few up thread in the 7lb club!

I’m 5”2 freetodowhatiwant although like athlestane, I think I’m shrinking!

Have a great day all

2lb off for me this week taking me to 13st2 , so at the lower end of my plateau range. Going to KOKO this week with 18:6 fasting and definitely need to increase the water.

I'm dying to see the 12s again. Was 13.4 when I conceived so been a while since I've seen that number!

Hi everyone! Just checking in with a loss of 2lbs,so 4lbs all together.Part of me wishes it was more but as I mentioned before the fact I have lost anything is something of a miracle as lost nothing on other diets. I still find it difficult mentally if I am honest to eat lchf after years and years of fat being demonised. Should I be switching the whole family over to full fat everything? I am also an emotional eater and am really, really, really missing sweet things as I always feel I need it after my evening meal.(there have been a few tears and stroppy moments over this) But on the whole very happy :)

1 lb off this week, which I'm thrilled with! I'm 5'6" (I think!) and am aiming for 140 eventually. My target used to be 130, but since lifting more weights I think I can look reasonably toned at a higher weight, and fit into my clothes. I'm still at a very early stage in lifting weights, but today I was really close to being able to do a chin up for the first time in 20+ years!

Ive found before that using just height is not always best, I am 5.5 bit large framed ( except for my wrist which are small and so skew the body type measurements ive seen!). Also im older so that makes a difference in that I can look haggard below a certain weight.
But I have broad shoulders and slim hips and legs , definitely an inverted triangle and at 140 I look really skinny... Yet I regularly see posters on MN who say that 10lbs less is right for them at that height..
The numbers used to bother me, but now I know that at 147 . I can wear sz 10 jeans..
So thats my goal ..

Down 2.2lbs so still edging downward at about 1lb a week. Its slower than I'd like but probably sustainable.

I'm now the same weight I was when I returned to work after my second mat leave. I suppose if I let 16lbs creep on over 3 years it's pretty good to lose it in 4 months.

Still targeting 9 stone as my finishing goal although I know that'll be very tricky.

I agree with everyone that the whole lockdown monotony is really getting old now. It doesn't help the diet. As a lazy low carb veggie I'm in a routine of about 3 meals.

On the plus side We can control what we eat and external temptation is minimal.

I’ve lost 1lb which I’m really happy with. That makes 6lb over the last 2 weeks. I’m now in the last 5lb zone which if it does come off it goes back on within a week. I’m happy to just coast now enjoying the food and feeling more energised and having nicer skin.

Well done everyone. It does seem to have been a hard week for many and I do think lockdown is harder. usually I’d be walking lots and out at the gym.

Good morning to you all.

Wow there really are some strong women (I assume) out there - you become more real to me with each post, and some of you are clearly dealing with very difficult circumstances with strength and dignity. I raise a(nother) mug of green tea to you all.

Recorded another smallish loss today. As ever I’d like it to be more but it’s going in the right direction so I’ll KOKO.

I always thought it might be interesting to have a column in the spreadsheet of fabulousness for height, what do you think? Is it too late Athelstane? I’m 5’9” on a good day.

@jofish26 When I've struggled with sweet cravings, I've made sugar free jelly (Hartley's is the nicest imo) and topped with double cream. When we get onto bootcamp light you can made the jelly with berries too.

Good to have the jellies ready made in small Tupperwares in the fridge then just add the cream fresh.

Another one was frozen berries zapped in the microwave with really cold full fat greek yoghurt. Greek yoghurt with cinnamon is also really nice.

I missed so much conversation over the weekend but have trad it all and want everyone to know I’m thinking about you.

Tough week for many, it seems.

Just a reminder to those who might have not lost a lot, who might have stayed the same, who might have gained a pound or two—remember why this Short Sharp Shock was out in place, because so many were liking it on during lockdown.

Even if your weight movement was negligible please remember it is a better option than gaining 3lbs a week (which so many have been doing)!

Repeat after me: it is better to stay the same weight than it is to gain.
