I have been low carb/high fat since Monday. Staying below 50g carbs. I have lost 3lbs since Monday.

I have woken up this morning feeling like I have the hangover from hell! I woke up around 4:30am with a mouth so dry I honestly felt like I’d been drinking the night before. My head is banging, I feel sick, dizzy and I’m so so tired. I’m dreading driving to work because I actually feel so hungover. It’s only been 2 days, is this normal??

I believe it is normal...that's why many people give up. However you are supposed to battle through it.
Or perhaps it Covid....eeek!

Doesn’t sound right. You have to find something that works for your body. Intermittent fasting works well for me haven’t changed what I eat but just less of it and in a window and fewer sweet snacks.

Re: covid ... I have developed a bit of a cough too but I put that down to hay fever!

I’m hoping it’s Keto flu that I’ve just read about as I don’t think covid symptoms include excessive thirst 😁

It’s carb flu. Up your water intake as much as you can. Add more salt to your food, and drink a cup of stock/boullion/bovril to replace electrolytes.

And it’s perfectly normal to feel that way for a couple of days, in some cases for up to 5. Nothing to worry about and will ease as your body switches to fat as fuel.

@SquishyBones poor you! I second carb flu - I had it too and it was very unpleasant! More water, more salt etc as others suggested and what helped me as well was having some cream and a few berries - obvs berries are carbs but pretty ok and the cream I think helped my fat (and felt like a ‘nice’ thing which helped psychologically!) it will pass!
On that subject though - might be worth being cautious about Covid and mentioning that you’re feeling a bit under weather. In all likelihood it’s carb flu of course, but you just never know! Hope you feel better soon.
Have you joined our new boot camp thread? We start Monday officially but there’s lots going on on the threads x

Try water with a pinch of salt and squeeze of lemon juice (bottled lemon juice from the fridge is fine) to replace your lost electrolytes.

Carb 'flu' completely normal. Your body's way of trying to get you to eat carbs! Cunning bugger.

Don't.

Drink water
Go for a walk
Make sure you eat enough fat & protein.

Hang in there, it'll be worth it. Go and join the Bootcamp threads you'll get a lot of advice & support!

How are you feeling now, @SquishyBones? Did you get through it?

Others are right, this is carb flu (at least I hope so, and it's not Covid!)

It should only last for a couple of days - keep up your electrolytes, so sodium, magnesium and potassium. Sodium is key - so cook with salt and add it to your food. Salmon, avocado and full fat natural yoghurt are good sources of the other electrolytes. You can also buy electrolyte tabs called Zero, made by High5. You can buy those from the High5 website, or from Holland & Barratt/Evans Cycles/Amazon.

I didn’t get through it, I caved and pigged out on carbs 😩 starting again tomorrow ... I’ve been prepping all day. Got a fish pie cooked and ready to portion up (used the recipe from here in seafood thread)

I got it horribly the first time. Electrolytes. I found a no sweetener option (foul) and they work.

Its an electrolyte imbalance. Completely avoidable. Google ketoade recipes. It helps honest.
