So after a bit of illness followed by too many carbs I feel like I need a reset. Has anyone done an egg fast? Care to share your successes/failures/tips? Thanks

I haven't. I thought about doing it a couple of weeks ago but it would have had to have been duck eggs (currently drowning in them) and am not THAT keen on them.

Try asking on the current, Week 9, thread. You're more likely to get an answer there.

Thanks for replying I remember you posting about your duck eggs! I'll try on the thread again but I've commented before and got ignored... 😔 😳

You could try searching for 'egg fast' on MN as well. That's what I did and came up with a few threads about it.

Aww, Mickey, it's not that you would have been ignored, it's just that we talk a lot and it moves quickly. Just ask again, there are several people there who did it before Xmas. I tried, found I felt really unwell, but I just can't seem to drop my carbs below about 25 without having problems, so it wasn't for me.

Thanks all for your replies I might try for 2 days 😁

I successfully a 5 day egg fast before Christmas - gave me the boost to get below 12 stone Smile

I had previously done a 3 day fast in November.

Found the link to a site that advised how to do it, plus suggestions for daily menus, from one of the previous Boot Camp threads (sorry, on the app so can't find it - but do an advanced search).

It told me how much butter/fat per egg to have (minimum 6 eggs a day and iirc, 2oz butter per egg) plus how much water. The other thing I got from it was the importance of tapering back to a "normal" HFLC (of course Wink) on days 4 and 5, otherwise you risk a rebound effect.

@mickeymacca I've done an egg fast a couple of times, first time I lost 3lb in 2.5 days (I think), second time I lost 2lb in 3 days but I'd already lost a couple of stone by then (on keto). I found it good to experiment with different recipes otherwise I'd have been bored stiff with non stop boiled eggs and omelettes e.g egg fast waffles which I used to make a cheese "toastie." Good luck!

I'm doing an egg fast this weekend. Have been LCHF since October. Losy 12lbs between Oct- Dec, then stayed the same from Jan to March. I was eating a bit too much dark chocolate I suspect.
I started the egg fast on Friday morning with the pancake recipe and rules from I breathe I'm hungry blog. I was 11.1. Yesterday morn I was 10.13.4. Very excited to see the 10s as I haven't seen it for 10 years. This morning another 1.4lb off at 10.12. I'm finding it easy because I'm doing some work on my home this weekend, so am cooking all meals and not eating out. No temptation to go to coffee shops either. I will do today and then integrate 1 non egg meal (veg & prawns/salmons) back into my diet over the next few days. I'd like to do it longer, but I fear I'll run out of recipe ideas and rebound. Want to stop while I can still face eggs for a gradual integration back to LCHF. If I stay in the 10s at around 10.12 it will have been well worth it. My goal is a little nearer and strict LCHF seems positively decadent after an egg fast. Drinking lots more water and mint tea than usual too. Much easier when at home and not going out to work.

The weight I lost during the egg fast stayed off. So I'll do another one this week. Actually looking forward to the simplicity of it. No decisions on what to buy and cook.

I like the simplicity of it too Diana. I've adapted it slightly so I can stomach all the eggs though! Today's food was
B devilled eggs x 2
L snicker doodles(not a fan)
D smashed avocado with garlic chill and coriander with 2 fried eggs on top

I'm allowing myself avocado and also cups of tea 😁

Well done Mickey. I don't think it is all water if you were low carb/in keto before the egg fast. The scales a week after you finish will be the proof, but I think you can be optimistic. I didn't have anything but eggs, cheese, a small amount of cream. butter and coconut oil. I was really thirsty, so drinking the water and lots of green and mint tea was easy. I'd love to hear the end result when adding avocado too. I'm surprised that you didn't like snicker doodle pancakes. I blended the cream cheese and eggs in a bullet, added loads of cinnamon and some lemon juice and cream once cooked. Loved them.

thanks Diana i knew I had to add in avocado and mushrooms or id be sick of eggs already - i tried snickerdoodles again today and i think i got the ratios better. I liked it better still not loving them but a nice change from boiled or scrambled etc. Will keep you posted!

It’s just eggs, cheese and fats. Otherwise, it’s not the egg fast diet. I did it for 14 days. It was hardest at about 4/5 days when I was just sick to death of eggs. And my god, you don’t realise how much water you’re getting when you eat low carb because I was so thirsty all the time and drinking buckets.

Also found heavy cream in my coffee (instead of coconut and butter) and mayo with spicy chilli made no difference to me and I still lost weight, but others reported the cream didn’t help.

Spent about 3-4 days slowly reintroducing meats, then added veg in, otherwise (according to others) you gain back 2-4 pounds immediately. 10 pounds in 21 days total.

Hi Mickey, sorry I had a couple of busy days where I couldn't cook or meal plan. Still in late 10s and can start on Saturday. I had a carb meal last night and hate how tired and rough it made me feel. A good reminder why I'm doing LCHF, apart from the weightloss. Did you do a few egg days?

Report
mickeymacca · 19/04/2018 08:32

Hi Diana you're doing well to maintain. My problem is if I put on a pound or two I really lose my motivation. I've not done anymore egg fast as like you it's been a bit busy and also if we have social things planned it's tricky do I'm also holding out for Saturday, Sunday and Monday hopefully... I've hit 11,8 today which I'm thrilled about. Been keeping food simple this week. Just roast chicken salad or egg salad or cold meats.

Well done on hitting 11.8 Mickey. So good when you know what you're doing is working.
I had a meal and drinks out yesterday, so was relieved to start the egg fast today and generally a higher carb week than usual. No social engagements this weekend that involve eating, so it should be easy. Thinking about getting a waffle maker from Argos today, for a change of texture on this fast.
I go on holiday next Saturday, and want my new clothes to fit well (large size 12 after years of wearing 16), so I'm highly motivated! About to start introducing 30 mins of yoga at home everyday too as this lovely weather showed up how tense and stiff my body has been all winter.
