Low-carb bootcamp

Posting low carb diary to keep me motivated

Yorkshirebornandbred · 13/05/2017 05:44

Hope no one minds .. I'd like to post every day what I eat to help me stay motivated until bootcamp starts.

I feel like I've eaten an awful lot today Blush

Breakfast was 3 rashers fried bacon and 2 fried eggs
Lunch was lettuce with mayonnaise, hand a can of tuna with mayo and half a small avocado.
Dinner was mince from cottage pie but without potato, with courgetti fried and spinach and peas with butter.
Snacks of half a tub of olives, a mini babybel and some pate.
Drinks: lots of decaf black coffee, water and lemon and ginger tea.

I walked for an hour at quite a brisk pace.

That sounds fine - apart from the peas; I'd avoid those if you can.

Don't worry about quantity, unless you're really piling your plate high! The key thing in the first couple of weeks is to get used to low carbing, and to switch your body into fat-burning, and away from carb-burning. Once you've done that, you'll find that you're suddenly not hungry any more - certainly not between meals. You may even find that you're forgetting to eat!

It's a very good idea to keep a food diary, as it helps you to stay focused on track. I'd also suggest that you keep a record of how much water you've been drinking, as this is really important too.

Hi Qtips, of course, I'll run out of ideas soon no doubt! Blush

Thanks BIWI that's great. I wasn't hungry at all.

Pity about the peas... I tend to buy those frozen steam veg bags and they always have peas or carrots in. I'll try to get used to buying fresh veg instead.

If I log my food on mfp what percentage of carbs should I be looking for?

Today I'm going to try and find time to prepare some Bolognese sauce and maybe cauliflower cheese and freeze in portions.

The thing is, if you're doing Bootcamp, there's no daily carb limit. The reason for that is two-fold. First, I wanted to create something that was easy to follow, therefore no counting or weighing of anything. (Because I'm a lazy cow Grin) And second, everyone reacts differently to carbs - some people can tolerate more per day than others.

If you follow Bootcamp rules, and make sure you tick to the allowed veg for most of the time, you'll be fine!

(The veg carb counts are on the spreadsheet - look at the tabs on the bottom - and you should be aiming for most of your veg to be 3g carbs per 100g)

Bit of roast turkey, cheese and butter with cucumber and tomatoes for a late lunch. Filling up as the in laws round later and may be having carbs so just will have a bit of fish pie with cauliflower mash.

Hi Yorkshire, BIWI AND lovely. Thanks for letting me lurk on the page and see the advice you're giving and meals you're having. I have been good for the last three weeks, however today lapsed into a carb/sugar/food coma. I'm lying in the sofa patting my food baby!!
Period due and a blowout was so desperately needed and I feel no ounce of guilt!!! Onwards and upwards again tomorrow. Hope you're all having a lovely weekend.

I'll definitely be reading this thread OP. I'm on day three of keto so always looking for low carb meal/snack ideas! Also keeps me motivated/inspired to read threads where people are sticking to this way of eating of doing well :)

Hi Doesanyone Smile

The rest of my meals today were

Chicken breast and sausages with spinach and cauliflower for dinner

Snack: another sausage cold and some pate, a very small glass of white wine and soda, a babybel cheese.

I've drunk lots of water and black decaf coffee.

What sausages do you eat? Someone mentioned lots of sausages and burgers have rusk and stuff which bumps up the carbs. I was recommended the 'heck' sausages but haven't tried them yet.

I'm still in the steak/bacon/eggs/babybel stage and haven't progressed to new brands, baking (I want to though!) or new recipes yet!

I was thinking about pate earlier - not sure what to have it on though as usually have it with toast/bread/crackers.

I had a coffee with a tbsp of cream for breakfast then for dinner I had bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes and for a snack I had some of the 'awfully posh' pork scratchings I saw reccommended on a thread yesterday. I didn't use all my calories but my fat/protein/carb ratio was good and I wasn't hungry at any point.

Check the packet for carb counts on sausages because they vary hugely. The Black Farmer are really nice sausages and they're also virtually carb-free. Also, most supermarkets' premium own brand have some that are equally as low. (But even with these you have to be very careful and check the carb count on the pack)

For pate, you can have it on celery - or there are various recipes for flaxseed crackers that are low(ish) carb.

Thanks I'll look out for those ones!
Oh of course, celery! Didn't even think of that... Blush

Does I buy the outdoor bred 97% meat sausages from tesco.

I just eat pate on its own or with cheese. I'll try it on celery though.

For brunch I had bacon and egg.

I know I shouldn't be drinking wine and won't during the week ...

Just had a snack of a little cold chicken with mayonnaise.

Thanks, I'll have a look at those sausages too.
How are you finding it Yorkshire? I'm finding it scarily easy.... usually by now Ive cracked and eaten loads of junk.... I hope it lasts :) I'm tentatively hopeful!

At the moment I'm finding it easy too ... I've not been hungry. I am finding it expensive though .. I'm used to living off jacket potatoes a lot of the time ... but then I guess I'm saving money that I would spend on chocolate and junk!

Hi Yorkshire,

Mind if I join you for the same reasons? just started LC and waiting for bootcamp. And I know what you mean. I felt really odd making an omlette with butter and cheese for lunch. Like it couldn't possibly work.

But not had hunger pangs so far, and MFP tells me I've eaten just over 1000 cals today which seems hard to believe, because of how rich the food is.

Today:
Skyr yoghurt with pecan nuts and berries

cheese omlette with cucumber chunks and chorizo on the side

large homemade beef burger with mixed dark leaf salad and red peppers

snacks:

3 brazil nuts
packet of crunchy seaweed

Does that sound OK do you think?

Yorkshirebornandbred · 15/05/2017 19:36

Hi Milli, of course you can join in Smile

Was the yoghurt full fat? And no sugar?

I've not seen crunchy seaweed .. is it made with sugar like at the Chinese?

I've had a snack of pate with celery and a babybel, half a pot of yeo valley natural yoghurt with two strawberries chopped in it.

For dinner I had a home made big burger with spinach, peas Blush and courgettini.

One coffee with double cream.

Hi Yorkshire,
No there's no sugar in the seaweed, just seaweed, oil, a trace of wasabi and salt. I love them but a gave one to a girl at work and she almost threw up. Bit like marmite.

Do you make your own courgettini? What spiralizer did you get?

Skyr yoghurt is low fat naturally, but I love it - it's just yoghurt, not stuffed with starch, and has no sugar in it. I can't tolerate fatty foods early in the day.

Greek yogurt is supposed to be better than normal - if you get the 0% stuff it's not too carby.
OP, my PT reckons on about 25% carbs/35% fat/40% protein, but I do a lot of gym training too.

Report
BIWI · 15/05/2017 22:43

Don't get the 0% fat one! A low carb diet should be high in fat
