Low-carb bootcamp

Really sorry everyone - I've been stupidly busy recently and was at work really early yesterday so completely forgot to start the new chat thread.

It's an especially heinous crime too, seeing as I should have been guiding you all into the careful decision that you need to make for week 3 - i.e. whether to move on to Bootcamp Light, stay on Bootcamp or do Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend

Anyway if you haven't already, here's the spreadsheet for you to input your latest weight

It's also time for me to issue the standard week 3 warning:

IT'S VERY COMMON IN WEEKS 3 AND 4 (AND SOMETIMES 5) FOR YOUR WEIGHT LOSS TO SLOW RIGHT DOWN OR EVEN STOP. THIS IS NOTHING UNUSUAL. IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU, DON'T DESPAIR - JUST KEEP ON KEEPING ON AND THINGS WILL START TO MOVE AGAIN SOON

I think I've been on Bootcamp Heavy over the last few days Hmm

Went to DB and DSIL to sort out what stuff I'm taking from my dad's house, and it was carb overload. Bonfire night - hot dogs, followed by pie and peas. And buckets of wine Grin

And it's so easy to allow that to derail yourself. So I am drawing a very large veil over the rest of the weekend. That's all you need to know.

However, I'm glad to report that I'm wearing things now that were definitely too small/tight this time last year, so I'm pleased about that. (I'm not weighing at the moment, but going by my clothes). So for me, it's definitely strict Bootcamp, at least during the week.

It's strict for me too. 5lbs down but I've a party in two weeks! Ordered lots of clothes only to find I looked like a total git in them all. Le sigh.

Thanks BIWI - definitely sticking to BootCamp Heavy for the next two weeks, I have stuff coming up from mid November till the middle of January and not so much to loose weight - that is always good - but to get into the habit of eating like this as the norm.

As a option in cafes I have weirdly started having the all day breakfast option: bacon, sausages, tomatoes, fried egg, mushrooms without toast or hash browns - doesn't look odd - and the nice cafe I was in last week, gave me avocado instead of the toast and Hash browns!!! I will return!!! I know its a bit of a gamble with sausages however it is better than toast!!! Also its so nice to eat hot stuff as opposed to a quinoa salad which at the moment it is far to cold to consume!!!!

Thanks Biwi. 2.5lbs off for me this week which I'm really chuffed about. Cutting dairy is definitely the key for me.

Thanks BIWI!

I am staying on BC for next few weeks until I can shift some more pounds.

Yesterday:
B - chicken, LC coleslaw, mozzarella and sun dried toms
L - same as breakfast
D - salad with chicken, olives, coleslaw and dressing
S - 2 babybel, coffee and cream

Today's plan:
B - coffee and cream, chicken, mayo, 3 ham slices rolled up with boursin
L - salad, haloumi, bacon, dressing
D - chicken breast wrapped in bacon, broccoli, cauliflower

I cooked a swede in the microwave (saw it on here somewhere!) just a whole swede (no need to prick) full power for 15-20 mins turning half way. It was delicious!! I brought it to the table whole with a lid sliced off and we dug in with spoons (I was being lazy Grin)

Hello, thanks for all the fabulous info. Was a week late starting but 4lb this week which is fantastic, and saw a number on the scales today which I haven't seen in quite a while! Absolutely love the spreadsheets and all the info. Thanks for helping me feel motivated. I've even done some cooking in advance!

Having a complete cook-out for thanksgiving next Sunday, so will be strict up until then. DH and I (he lost a stone after "trying it out" for a week...gah!) plan to Ubercamp on the three days before and the three days after. Does this sound ok? Also, can someone please update the spreadsheet for me?

I stupidly weighed myself again this morning and it was less than yesterday but I will log yesterday's weight...

Food yesterday:
B - berries, yog and flaxseed
L - celery with blue cheese, slice of emmenthal, slice of ham
D - shepherds pie without the mash, broccoli, some of the sugar free choc mousse I made at the weekend (basically 85% choc melted with some warm water, mixed with egg yolk and then whipped egg white folded through) with some whipped cream. It's crazy rich so only had a tiny amount.

Today:
B - berries, yog, flaxseed
L - will prob be a chicken and salad stuff from M&S
D - out for dinner with friends to a local pub and then a gin tasting??! Will make sure I stick to LC for the food (steak and salad maybe) but not sure how to manage on the gin score as I don't think it mixes brilliantly with soda...?! Tbh I am still not 100% well so will probably not go large on the booze anyway.

I actually REALLY need to share an Grin moment. I weighed today and I was 8lb up from yesterday! DH weighed and he was exactly the same- 8lb up. We looked at the bottom of the scales, and there was a haribo giant strawberry stuck to them, overbalancing the fucking things! If we didn't have proof before that haribo can pile on the weight, we do now...

Feeling good about food today.

Had eggs for breakfast, made salmon fish cakes without flour/breadcrumbs for lunch, and am planning lemon butter chicken for dinner.

Just about to go to the gym and then head to the supermarket to get ingredients for (courgetti) ramen. I'm going to make the broth from scratch with pigs trotters on Friday Blush.

I'm staying on Bootcamp proper for a while as I had a horrid weekend, cold and sore throat, feeling grotty leading to a need for ice-cream (I'd have claimed it was medicinal until I ate the whole pack!) I find it far too easy to derail myself so I'm back to basics.

Have a drinks and nibbles thing on Saturday which may be an issue. I know it will be Prosecco and crisps, peanuts and carb overload. The hostess is someone who can be offended if you don't join in. Am wondering how to approach it to minimise the damage

Report
PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 08/11/2016 10:18

Pisc can you offer to contribute some nibbles? There are recipes for low-carb crackers, cauliflower "breadsticks", scotch eggs, etc. Then no one will notice you're not eating the high-carb things.

Pop - Last time I did this WOE I found that pate on cucumber works, or a smoked salmon mixed with cream cheese on cucumber slices - Or and this only works if you have balls of steel with a hostess like that: "sorry I am being tested for food intolerances at the moment and this week I am "off gluten and refined sugar" Alternatively take and then drop them, or take whatever it is and stick it in your bag!!!! My go to is eat before I go, and use the I not hungry at the moment, may come back later!!

I ended up picking the cheese out of a sandwich my mom tried to force down me the other day, and shoving the bread up my sleeve! 😁

If you have the willpower, just keeping a glass of something in your hand all night without drinking any/much can work at larger gatherings.

And never saying no, but taking something when offered and having a tiny bite then holding it until you can dispose of it can help elude 'are you on a diet?' style interrogations.

Thanks BIWI - I've lost 2.5 lbs this last week - I'm pleased as I've had a pub meal, son's birthday and a curry night to contend with. I've been logging food with MFP and see I've gone over on carbs badly on a couple of occasions and have in reality been more Bootcamp-Lite this last week.
I'm a veggie, I find I need to plan well, carry snacks and have been eating some nuts and had some pulses in food. I'm going to carry on as i am but try to cut back a little on dairy and see if replacing it with more soya products helps. I've already been using soya milk in my tea and I'm used to it now. I will have berries now but resist any other fruit.
I find I'm eating well, cooking more and have far smaller portions - my sweet tooth is assuaged with a square of very dark chocolate. Thanks for the warning about KOKO to get over any plateaus - I will persevere.

Anyone else's periods a bit...strange? Mine is dragging on and on, its usually over after about 3 days. Wonder if the hormones are being affected by the low sugar?

Place marking. I have been quite virtuous over the last week or so. However, tonight looks high risk as DH is planning a carb fest to accompany US election watching. Will try to stay firm!!

Eighties - I find my periods go very strange when proper low carbing. The first one doesn't know what's going on then seem to settle to very regular (which I'm usually not - PCOS history). BIWI (?) has put info about LC'ing affecting hormones/insulin uptake, but sorry I don't know where to find it, but may be worth a Google.

Yep, I agree - mine arrived early and is lingering on for longer than usual. Not a great side effect as I already have very short cycles (c.24days) so could do with them getting longer, not shorter!

71HourAchmed · 08/11/2016 14:02

Thanks BIWI

Not a brilliant weekend, but down 3 lbs for the week, so not too awful. Definitely BC heavy for me for a while longer till I get better at fighting off the cravings...

Report
bettyblueeyes83 · 08/11/2016 14:04

Weird - mine get much longer in between and then lighter and shorter for the actual period. This time I was 12 days late. So much that my Clue app e-mailed to say WTF is up with your cycle! But they are now also almost pain-free which is a bonus.

Anyway, thanks for the new thread BIWI. Weighed in yesterday at 155.5, so 6.4lbs down overall so far - am very pleased. Although I did weigh again this morning and was 1lb up, I blame the focaccia

Food yesterday:

B: scrambled eggs and avocado, coffee and cream
L: cauliflower and pancetta soup with keto garlic and rosemary focaccia
D: creamy fish casserole with mushrooms, broccoli
S: more focaccia!

So glad I cooked ahead, as lunch and dinner were both really tasty and I had a v.busy day. Although have to be careful not to overdo it with LC 'bread' as it's just as easy to eat as normal bread...
