Low-carb bootcamp

Boot camping for blokes

I've been having good results from the LCHF diet, so now my DP would also like to give it a go. Are there any differences in recommendations, e.g. higher carb levels for blokes? I know men are recommended higher calorie levels in diet generally, so wondered whether there was a parallel. Any guys out there with inspiring stories to tell or advice to help him on the way?

When my DH and I were bootcamping, he just had bigger portions to satisfy his appetite, so there was a corresponding increase in his carbs compared to mine (which I kept around 20g/day). He still lost more weight than me!

Annoyingly, this diet is generally more successful in the short term for men, so brace yourself not to become too disheartened about your own results.

That's interesting, thanks Betsy. I'm tootling down steadily, losing about a pound a week now (after the initial excitement of losing 3 in first week!) I think he'll be quite excited to shed more!

There's no reason for him to do anything different - and in fact, he'll probably benefit from the support on the thread anyway! He won't be the only bloke either.

Just prepare yourself for the fact that he will lose more, and more quickly than you. Men do that. The bastards.

Thanks BIWI - he starts tomorrow night. Said he wanted one last 'proper' Sunday lunch!

How is it going Brain? My DH went low carb at the same time as me too and he has a much higher carb tolerance than me so he can indulge in the odd spud or pint of beer and still lose weight the bastard!

My husband eats PORRIDGE! for breakfast and has a stash of haribo in the car which he thinks i dont know about and he has still lost more weight than me. He barely does any exercise and i do kettlebells 4 times a week and cycle and walk. ITS JUST NOT FAIR!

DH started bootcamp at the same time as me (3.5 weeks ago) and has lost a stone. Arghhh!

Hi StuntNun we are weighing officially tomorrow morning. Haven't been doing a daily check. He's been brill, stuck to it really well, so I'm hoping tomorrow brings him an inspiring result.
