Post here any questions (or concerns) you may have here. The main chat thread often moves very quickly in the first few weeks, so specific questions can get missed!

Anyone get any tips for getting through the water? Does it really speed up the weight loss? Thanks in advance .

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp Mon 18-Jan-16 08:01:16

I'm wondering if there's any way I can juice/make smoothies? There must be a way using greens/ginger..... But is lemons ok?

BIWI Mon 18-Jan-16 08:44:48

Yes, water is essential for helping weight loss along.

The best way to do it is to have a bottle on your desk and just to keep sipping at it all day long - assuming that you are in an office-based workplace of course!

If you're not, take a small bottle with you and try to keep it somewhere you can see it.

Some people set an alarm on their phone for every hour, to remind them to have a drink.

You will find, though, that you get used to it quite quickly.

Lemon juice is OK but only in small quantities. I'm sure you could make a great smoothie with full fat natural yoghurt? (But I don't know as I don't do juices or smoothies myself - they've always been either too calorie or carb laden to contemplate)

Here's an Atkins recipe for an avocado smoothie

I'm not a member of bootcamp but have been following "the rules" since August and have lost 34lbs so far (thank you BIWI!! 😁)

I was just wondering if people track what they're eating to see what amount of carbs they're eating in a day? And roughly how many grams of carbs you should roughly have per day?

I know it varies from person to person. I've read that between 50g-100g is good for weight loss but a few low carb Facebook groups I'm on, the majority of members seem to suggest eating no more than 20g of carbs per day for optimum weight loss. I really need to stop faffing around and having small "cheats" and get into tracking so I can see exactly where my carbs are coming from (and to encourage me not to have a chocolate every now and then!)

The smoothie i've had for the last two days was...
Half an avocado, 2 blocks of frozen spinach, a stick of celery, a pot of ff greek yoghurt and a tablespoon of coconut oil. Whizzed up in my knock off nutribullet (its a breville one and was something like £30) with some water smile

mustbemad71 Mon 18-Jan-16 09:04:16

Thanks BIWI. Will keep glugging at my desk!

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp Mon 18-Jan-16 10:28:04

Oh good! So I can Still make them! I'll add ginger

fohamy12 Mon 18-Jan-16 10:47:58

Does anyone make bulletproof coffee, and what recipe/ingredients do you use? Was wondering what coffee with almond milk and coconut oil would be like?

BeyondBootcampsAgain Mon 18-Jan-16 11:05:23

Fohamy, when i have it i just use a spoonful of coconut oil and a spoonful of butter. Unsalted is recommended, but i find that salted doesnt taste any different!

fohamy12 Mon 18-Jan-16 11:23:45

Thanks Beyond, is it nice?!

BeyondBootcampsAgain Mon 18-Jan-16 11:26:02

It is, actually, though a bit weird

StuntNun Mon 18-Jan-16 12:12:54

Mustbemad the water is essential, an absolute minimum of two litres a day. I leave a pint glass by the kitchen sink and have a drink from it every time I'm there. A slice of strawberry, lemon or cucumber in the glass is rather nice. I also drink a lot of tea (made with unsweetened almond milk which is very low carb). I also drink hot water sometimes. There are lots of herbal teas which can be helpful if you're craving something sweet such as licorice or buttermint. Rooibos tea is lovely with a teaspoon of coconut oil in (and moisturises your lips beautifully too!)

Drogon everyone has their own carb tolerance, and it will change depending on your weight and how much exercise you are doing. Atkins recommends going up or down by 5g carbs per day until you find your own optimal amount for weight loss. Most people don't need to count their carbs if they're following the Bootcamp rules so only do it if you think it will help you.

Fohamy bulletproof coffee (BPC) is nice, it's like a coconut latte. BPCs are very calorific so don't have more than one a day. BPCs are best for people that are at or near their ideal weight who need to increase their fat intake. I use 200ml coffee (instant and decaf are fine), 15g butter and 15g coconut oil whizzed up with a stick blender or a battery powered milk frother. If you're new to BPCs then start with 5g of butter and 5g of coconut oil or you will make yourself feel sick!

mustbemad71 Mon 18-Jan-16 13:31:25

Thanks Stuntnun - will keep at it with the water! Feel very bloated!

CassandraKumquat Mon 18-Jan-16 13:42:15

I've been doing BC Light for a fortnight and have found I'm struggling with my energy during workouts. I weight lift twice a week and have really noticed a difference in how much I can lift/for how long.
Do people find their energy improves as your body adjusts to this WOE?
Thanks everyone smile

regenerationfez Mon 18-Jan-16 13:45:16

My DH made me a quorn bolognese with carb free pasta for my lunch. Can I eat quorn?

Drogon Mon 18-Jan-16 14:13:50

Thank you Stuntnun smile

I must admit trying to track carbs when you cook from scratch and have to measure all the cream and cheese is a pain so I think I'll stick to the list of "allowed" and "moderate" foods grin

TurnOffTheTv Mon 18-Jan-16 14:14:52

Are Kallo corn cakes a big no no?
Ingredients are 99.5% corn (Sweetcorn?)
They are gluten free and 5.7g carbs.

I wouldn't normally eat them during bootcamp but I'm doing dry January as well and I might struggle!

StuntNun Mon 18-Jan-16 14:43:15

That's typical Cassandra. It takes a few weeks for your body to completely adjust to fat-burning. Your exercise performance will come back in the next couple of weeks. Are you lifting really heavy?

fohamy12 Mon 18-Jan-16 14:50:11

Thank you beyond and stuntnun ,as I am five stone away from my ideal weight I will give the BPC a miss for now. Thanks for the great info!smile

Mookbark Mon 18-Jan-16 16:13:52

Regeneration I'm pretty sure you can't have Quorn on BC.

regenerationfez Mon 18-Jan-16 16:22:26

hmmm.. I think I'm going to try my best and do as much lc as I can, but as I'm not in charge of diners or shopping, it might be a bit harder than I thought!

CassandraKumquat Mon 18-Jan-16 16:38:55

That's really good to know, thanks StuntNun.
I'm not lifting too heavy atm as I'm recovering from injury... looking forward to getting my mojo back!
