Low-carb bootcamp

Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - Decision Time

Since BIWI is off sunning herself in Barbados this week I am starting the new thread.

Hope last week was a good week for you, here is teh spreadsheet to record your losses on. Or, in my case, gain Hmm

In week 3 you can now make a decision. If you've done a full two weeks of BC you should now be well adapted to the LCHF WOE and can move onto BCLite. This means that you can skip breakfast (or lunch or dinner) if you are not hungry, on BC you should have been eating 3 meals a day. On BCLite you eat when you are hungry.

You can also add some foods which were not allowed on BC:

Some fruit - berries (occasionally, the carb counts are available on the spreadsheet).

Nuts/seeds - these are good for snacks but do remember that they can be quite carby if you eat loads so be careful.

Alcohol (once or twice per week and stick with clear spirits with soda water, champagne, red wine or dry white wine - remember, alcohol can impede weight loss.

We are still avoiding sugar and artificial sweeteners but this can make things difficult so for special occasions you can have certain things. Check out the recipe thread for dessert ideas for special dinners (BIWIs chocolate pots de creme are my favourite).

Don't go mad with all the extra things we are allowed, week 3 (and 4 & 5) are notorious for no weight loss for some reason. Some of you may even see a gain. KOKO and this will pass.

Thanks for the new thread, DrSayrra! Only half a lb down today, grr! Oh well. There was the odd glass of wine and square of dark chocolate and DH using flour to thicken stuff without me realising.

I've put my weight in, but both blue columns seem to be showing total loss, not weekly loss followed by total loss. Or have I put it in the wrong place?

I don't see a weight for you this week cheddar, not sure why. I've added it for you now if you were 0.5 lb down on last week, so hope I got it right Smile Overall weight loss so far 4.5 lb....not too bad for 2 weeks, well done.

Ah, found it now. Grin At least it'll mean people can ignore my long post on the other thread.
Sayrra I think there should be a new rule: posters are allowed to put weight on the week they get their doctorate. Grin

Signing in, thanks for well wishes! hunt hope your DH gets well soon.
Appetite still v sporadic due to lurg, but lost 2lb so that's great. 6lbs to go til lowest bootcamp weight.
Seasoned boot campers do we have a maintainers thread somewhere? Not there yet but this is where I went astray last time so would like to see how it's done properly for when I'm ready!
KOKO everyone and well done

Thanks for the new thread. 2lbs off for me. Going away today for a few days so will do BCLite.

Am still terribly constipated though so maybe the addition of berries and nuts will help with that.

Haha, thanks Hunt. Hope MrHunt gets home today, I think you can be forgiven for your pistachios, the rest of your food looked good Smile

yongnian unfortunately we don't, we have had one once or twice but it never really goes very well and new BCers always stray into the maintainers thread then eat things they shouldn't and wonder why they don't lose.

There are some BCers I still speak with who are maintaining, most of them manage by sticking to BC/BClite except on special occasions TBH. As with all WOE you can't go back to the way you ate before and keep the weight off. I think stunt has recommended before that you can try increasing carbs by a small increment each week on maintenance until you find you put on weight, then you know what your own personal carb limit is. Sometimes I maintain between BCs, even though I'm miles off my target, to practice. This usually means that, for me, I can have one carby meal (pasta etc) per week and not gain. Apart from that I stick with BClite.

Well done best Grin

Have been a bit absent in terms of posting but have been lurking. Have to admit I wasn't as disciplined over the first two weeks as I was when I first started LC-ing in April/May, so have probably been BC lite from the get go this time, which is a bit crap of me.

I have managed to lose 3lbs in that time though so I am now within sight of the 12st mark, which delights me. If I can be 11st anything by Christmas it will be brilliant.

So my plan now is to be bootcamp lite for breakfast and weekends (my default is berries and flaked almonds on top of greek yog), but proper bootcamp for lunch and dinners Monday - Thursday.

Hope that will still deliver me some weight loss in time for Christmas!

Well done to everyone else who has shown more discipline than me over the last couple of weeks - I am going to keep an eye on this thread a bit more, as it definitely motivates me to hear how others are doing.

Thanks Sayrra. I put my weight in the same column as last week - d'oh! Got it now. 4lbs over the fortnight - not too bad! I was a whole pound lighter on Thursday but it sneaked back on again and is now stubbornly refusing to vanish again. Never mind!

Bad weekend coming up, though. This is a long-standing arrangement - v posh hotel lunch on Friday (Gleneagles, darling!), Halloween party Friday night and a Harry Potter murder mystery on Saturday. I'm not sure what we're eating on Friday night, but I have been sent the menu for the HP party and it's heavily pasta-based. I can't ask my friend to change it - she's got one guest with colitis who can't eat too much fat, one incredibly picky vegetarian and 2 non-fish eaters to cater for, while simultaneously decorating her house as Hogwarts. Equally, it's a work lunch at Gleneagles and I suspect that means a buffet. I fully intend to eat everything on offer - I never get invited to fancy hotels as a general rule! So I'm going to weigh in on Friday morning and draw a veil over the weekend!

Thanks for the new thread Dr Grin 1.6lbs off for me today, happy with that but it was showing more earlier on in the week so hoping for a bounce back down at some stage soon.

I had some roast pork at a food festival yesterday and suspect there was sugar in the marinade, but other than that have been on plan. Still relying on dairy way too much, but as I still don't have a great appetite, I am kind of eating what I can, when I can face it.

Managed a proper breakfast today for the first time in two weeks so pleased with that. The rest of the day is still more, shall we say, fluid, in that I have no firm plans at all.

B: Two eggs, scrambled with butter and cream
L: Something from M&S
D: I have chicken in the fridge - maybe a curry with cauli rice if I CBA.

Only 1/4lb off this week for me, although this is actually LC week 10 for me, so my weight loss has slowed a bit. To make me feel better, I'm wearing my new, size-down jeans this morning and looking and feeling a lot slimmer than I did when I started Smile

I've decided to skip breakfast as I'm not hungry this morning. Think I'll have a piece of salmon with salad and mayo for lunch. Not sure about dinner yet.

3 off for me, but that's more because it hurts to eat :(

Sticking mostly to BC, if I go lite to soon I loose focus.

Today, FF yogurt for breakfast, probably chicken salad for lunch and lamb koftas for tea.

Tonsillitis is back, so feeling blurgh, trying to keep away from honey though.

Need to be super focused this week, I'm only 2lb off being under 13stone! And I have a lovely dress to wear at the weekend for anniversary dinner which I'm determined to fit into (think another couple of lb will do it) then focus on getting into my Christmas dress.

2lbs off for me this week which I'm happy with.

I only have Internet access on my phone at the moment so if someone is in the spreadsheet could they please update for me? (168lbs)

Thanks and congratulations everyone on the losses Smile

As I was a week late starting, I'm still bootcamping proper - or would be if it weren't for the major lapse yesterday involving small child's ice cream Blush
Anyway. Moving on from that.

Today's efforts:
no breakfast - I hate monday mornings, they're far too busy.
Lunch = lettuce, olives, avocado, mozzarella, cucumber and tinned mackerel salad.
Dinner = steak with veges, and mushrooms cooked in butter with melted Boursin (so nice, even my mushroom-hating son said he would eat more if I cooked them like that again Shock)

Not enough water. But a 2lb loss from last week so I'll record that on the weight loss spreadsheet and do better this week.

KOKO!

Thanks for that explanation sayyra I thought I'd remembered something like that about finding your carb tolerance and it's very useful to hear your experience.
Sadly I taught myself the hard way about what you're saying about not expecting to come off this WOE and expect the weight to stay off...what's worse was, I just let the carb creep mount up in addition to this WOE...eek bad plan! Anyway, won't go on about that here, back on track now.

Up one pound. The "fuck it" seal broke a bit over the weekend Blush so I should be glad it is only one up.

Back on track...koko.

I am at that age when my body is morphing (menopause). The weight had been piling on and so I started BC last Spring. It has helped me greatly: I can have a say in what kind of body I will have. I do feel better with this WOE as well: no pain in the middle of the night, more energy, no more brain fog. Those things are worth sticking with this WOE for me.

Thanks everyone here. It is very encouraging to read others' circumstances and strategies. Flowers

Thank you andthebandplayedon.

I was really hungry this morning so had a type of eggs in purgatory for breakfast (it was late and I won't have lunch). Delicious with a bit of zero carb chilli sauce and grated Parmesan on top.

New find in M&S - snacking crackling. Little thin strips of super crunchy crackling, all salty and delicious for 0.1g carbs.

Amazing, although I suspect my colleagues can al hear me eating them.

2.8 lbs off, very happy with that. I'm under the 13st mark for the first time since June which is a big deal for me, planning not to go there again...

Have been lurking all week and finding everyone's meals really helpful for a bit of variety. Also may stay on BC for another week or 2 as I can really get carried away with the nuts - I think I'm only having a handful and before you know it I've polished off the bag...

today's food:
B - a babybel and creamy coffee (couldn't face much more)
L - 3 lc sausages with leftover broccoli and cauliflower (and butter and mayo)
D - probably home made chili with cauli rice

Good luck this week everyone and well done on the losses so far.
