Morning all.

On a train now and access to Google docs is blocked, so I can't link to the spreadsheet I'm afraid. So if someone else could do that I'd be very grateful.

Breakfast at Leon this morning so a good low carb start to the day. Two poached eggs and truffled ham hock.

Good luck to everyone this week and thanks for all your good wishes. Forgive me if I'm not around and posting that much this week.

I am down just under a pound which is ok as I have had a stressful week and not sure I have drunk enough. Aim for this week drink more. That breakfast sounds lovely BIWI I had a coyo which was very yummy. I will be spending the whole day sat in front of the computer studying so have total control over my eating today.

I have STS which is fine as it's TOTM and I had a really good loss (for me) last week.

I also had a bit of a tricky week where I made lots of good choices but had to put myself in others hands and trust that what sounded BC friendly actually was (takeaway curry, BBQ, company party food where I just ate sausages).

Copied and pasted this from the week 7 thread - brain wasn't engaged earlier!

Miraculously I appear to have lost another 1lb. Have updated the sheet.

I think I was guilty of not drinking enough water last week so am ramping that up this week - I have a get together with people I haven't seen for at least 10yrs at the weekend so want to be as good as possible before then to feel as confident as possible.

Today I am enjoying the discipline of being in the office with a packed lunch so I won't fall into the trap of emotional or boredom-induced eating, which is what I think I did on Friday when dealing with poorly DD, traffic crap and dodgy builders annoying the neighbours.

B - coyo and ff greek yog with berries and almond and coconut flakes
L - leftover chicken salad from yesterday with an extra half an avocado
D - not sure yet

Just found out Dh has picked up DD2s tummy bug - not sure how DD1 and I have avoided it, but hope we will continue to be OK! If I am not thinking about DH dinner-wise this evening I will probably have an odd concoction of bc-friendly food that I find knocking around.

Hello

Can I very cheekily join you for last few weeks - I'm desperate and have a Uni reunion at the end of the month so need to get my (too large) arse in gear. Is it ok to add myself to spreadsheet? I've done bootcamp before and had great success with it but I've been very slack lately and that combined with injured knees/no running means I need new trousers!

One pound down and very pleased as am close-ish to goal weight and know it's going to be a slow slog.

On a fat mission having read a lot about ketogenic diets and how it all works. Very interesting stuff, I really think that this is going to be it for me forever, I don't miss sugar or refined carbs at all, will obviously up the carbs when I want to maintain but they will still come from veg and fruit and whole grains.

B slice of fathead pizza with olive oil heavy pesto in place of tomato
L bpc, thin slices of mature cheddar, spread with unsalted butter, mayo and topped with cucumber
S watercress, bacon, chicken, avocado salad with a few cherry toms, goats cheese, mayo, evoo.

Snacks may be 2 small slices of almond bread with low carb nut butter and butter if I need them.

I have STS and haven't actually lost all that much weight since the beginning of BC, however my shape is so different Smile. I'm so happy about this, and even happier about feeling emotionally and physically better on this WOE. I still have wobbly bits I'd like to reduce so I'm happy to KOKO.

I do wonder tho, where has my belly gone that it still shows on the scales?

trashcanjunkie · 29/06/2015 14:39

I'm sure nobody minds cousinsandra Grin hopefully you'll get the big whoosh from switching to lc so get some good results.

My scales say I'm a pound up but I think it's fluid, as I'm feeling fine and know I've stuck rigidly to the plan, including no dairy and small veg, and plenty of water. I did forget my bpc yesterday, but have had two this morning, and am just eating lunch now, without feeling odd or starving.

My brother asked me if I've been losing lots of weight when we facetimed on Friday, which made me ridiculously pleased Hmm

2lbs down this week, hope it's not dehydration as I've not been brilliant at meeting my water quota. Going to order some food and meal plan so I don't go off course this week. Going to Rome next Monday so I need to be strict this week if I want to allow myself an indulgence on my first trip to Italy!

L - rocket, more steak, cucumber, shallot, olive oil and horseradish mustard dressing
going to have strawberries, blackberries & cream for afters as kids left some of their fruit this morning - picture of this next to my boss's 'lunch' which is some dreadful looking concoction that he blends and brings to work but has gone an unappetizing lumpy brown by lunchtime - I know what I would rather be eating.....
D - will BBQ some chicken pieces, skin on and do a salad and oily dressing as mayo is running low

Why did I never think of this before? I just made my own salted pecan nuts and they are delish.

250g pecan nuts
50g butter
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Melt the butter. Add 1 tsp salt and the cinnamon then add the pecans and stir to coat. Roast at 110C for an hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Sprinkle over the other 1 tsp salt. Cool on some kitchen towel to remove any excess butter (so they aren't soggy). Eat in very small portions. Nom nom nom.

I just found this while looking for something else. It might help those who are prone to being a bit "bunged up". It was on a webpage going on about problems that can arise with LCHF eating.

4. Not Replenishing Sodium

One of the main mechanisms behind low-carb diets is a reduction in insulin levels.

Insulin has many functions in the body, such as telling fat cells to store fat.

But another thing that insulin does is to tell the kidneys to hold on to sodium.

On a low-carb diet, your insulin levels go down and your body starts shedding excess sodium and water along with it. This is why people often get rid of excess bloat within a few days of low-carb eating.

However, sodium is a crucial electrolyte in the body and this can become problematic when the kidneys dump too much of it.

This is one of the main reasons people get side effects on low-carb diets… such as lightheadedness, fatigue, headaches and even constipation.

The best way to circumvent this issue is to add more sodium to your diet. You can do this by adding more salt to your foods, but if that doesn’t suffice then you can drink a cup of broth every day.

I personally like adding a bouillon cube into a cup of hot water, then drinking it like a soup in a cup. It actually tastes really good and supplies 2 grams of sodium.

Bottom Line: Low-carb diets lower insulin levels, which makes the kidneys excrete excess sodium from the body. This can lead to a mild sodium deficiency.

I'm not losing any more and haven't for weeks. I think I'm doing it wrong or something.

Meals today:
2 egg omelette with camembert in olive oil
Mackerel in spicy tomato sauce, leafy green salad, Delouis mayo
Salmon fillet, cauli rice, leeks, celeriac, corgetti in coconut oil
Pork scratchings snack.
4 coffees with semi skimmed milk
4 glasses of water (so far).
This is pretty typical, what am I doing wrong??

How much milk are you having Kleptronic?
The reason I ask is when I started measuring I was having about 70mls in each cuppa - that soon adds up. Four cups of tea would be over 10g carbs (assuming 4.8g/100g semi skimmed).
I've switched to almond milk (alpro unsweetened 0.1g/100g) for the most part - barring the odd day when only 'real' tea will do.

trashcanjunkie · 29/06/2015 21:42

At a glance I'd say you're not drinking enough klep

I'm wondering what size glass though.... Is it a pint? Even then, it's quite late.

Other possibles

Snacking - totally stalls me.
Veg portions - are you eating too many carbs via the medium of veg? Stupid to think that leeks might be making you stall, but entirely possible
Caffeine - four a day (plus the milk, which I'll come to later) is a strong contender/offender. Can you switch to decaf for two of them?
SEMI SKIMMED MILK???? Shame on you! It should either be cream, or full fat, unless.....
Dairy - some people cannot lose with dairy. Sad but true.

Portion size - how big are your meals? Can you eat smaller without going hungry?

Also, are you measuring yourself? Sometimes shape can change, but weight can stay the same.

And finally, speaking from bitter experience, sometimes it just goes that way for a few weeks. stuntnun has charted her loss over a long period and the graph is very informative. There are times it actually goes up, stays the same, and piddles about all over, but when you see the bigger picture, it steadily goes down. She might even post it if we ask her nicely

Grin pleeeeeease?

I have had to become like an investigative scientist, tweaking this and that, and honestly, it's still been slow going for me and a bloody slog for every damn pound, so I completely understand how it can feel, but do keep on, cos when that loss or whoosh comes, it all feels worthwhile.

Your basic menu looks great though klep! You are totally getting it right, just if you aren't getting results, those are things you could scrutinise.
