Low-carb bootcamp

2015 January Low Carb Bootcamp - the questions thread!

Evening all!

I'm setting up this thread this evening, because I have to be up and out early tomorrow morning.

So, here is the thread for you to ask any questions that you might have about low carbing.

The chat thread tends to move really quickly in the first couple of weeks, so if you post questions on there you're not always guaranteed to get an answer, as it just might not be spotted. So use this thread to post any questions.

May I have the honour of asking the first question! Grin
Would a BPC count as breakfast?

I do a couple of intense exercise classes a week and also a 70km group bike ride. I started early and today really struggled (unusual) with the exercise class. Any suggestions for coping better with this.

Not sure about the BPC grinch I think two of our gurus don't really agree on this point Grin

handsup a lot of people struggle with exercise at first while their body is adapting to this WOE, if you go onto this thread and look at the last couple of pages MrsDesperado is having similar problems but has been given some advice.

supper - mixed grill and salad

SUn
B - Bacon and eggs
L - Sausages ( 1g/ sausage) avocado
Snack - some cheese
Dinner - roast Pork, celeriac and cabbage.

Mootime. Why do you feel you are doing something wrong?

Was there a good chunk of butter or other fats in the omelette? Did you put any oily dressing on your salad? If not you need to increase the fat.

No veg on Sat, salad really isn't 'enough', not much salad or veg on Sunday. Cabbage is fairly carby compared to things like courgettes.

Hi chipping. I feel like I may be going wrong as I've been going 2 weeks and am only 2lbs down. Infact, I lost 3lbs then put it back on, and then lost 2lb... I may need to up my fat and proper veg.
I don't remember it being so hard last time I did it and the weight fell off me. Hmm

Yes & no. The reason BIWI says you must have 3 meals a day for the first two weeks of BOOTCAMP is basically to stop you getting hungry and hurting yourself falling off the wagon! Once you get past that stage, any carb flu has buggered off and you're in the swing of things, you don't have to have breakfast or any other meal if you aren't hungry. So I suppose it's up to you, but keep that in mind.

SayraT. What do you mean, 'both' of our Guru's? Hmm Very confused. There is only one BootcampGuru, that BIWI! End of. Gavel. Etc. Grin

handsup. There's the link SayraT gave you, there's plenty about it on old threads too. But if you stick with LC, once you've adapted you'll be fine.

mootime. I see :(. It's very disheartening when the weight doesn't drop off. Can you think of anything else you are doing differently this time than last? Drinking enough water does seem to be a key factor, as well as getting enough fat. Try really hard with the water. Remember weight fluctuates throughout the day/week/month as well. Good luck this week.

What's BPC?

Is soy sauce ok?

Big difference is I'm 6 years older, have 3dc to run after, never get to sleep or exercise Wink! Also my starting weight when I last LC was the same as my goal weight this time Confused

Bullet proof coffee. Coffee with butter and coconut oil. I think. I hate coffee, so never tried it.

OK, so my go to snacks are nuts, yogurt and ham basically. I'm avoided the 1st two and I'll be too high in protein if I stick to just ham. Any suggestions?

I've finally got my head around olives. Found some I like - asda lemon and herb olives.

What can I do with plain avocado to make it nicer?

I'm currently lying down as I've just had a funny turn (dizzy head) coming out of the bathroom. Is this usual/can happen?

Grinch I think you need to have food for breakfast for the first two strict Bootcamp weeks. Once we're into Bootcamp Light then a BPC is fine for breakfast if that's enough to keep you going.

My BPC recipe is 200ml coffee (any kind including decaf and instant), 15g butter, 15g coconut oil and 5-10ml double cream (optional) mixed using a blender, stick blender or milk frother. It turns into a lovely creamy latte. If you aren't used to it then start with 5g each of butter and coconut oil and work up to more or it can make you feel queasy.

Sass some people put coconut oil in green tea or rooibos tea. I like to add in a teaspoonful and stir it before every sip - this also beautifully conditions your lips. Smile

Thanks sass that sounds, erm, interesting! I'll give it a go though.

Are stock cubes ok?

Does your bladder adjust to the increased fluid intake? I may just as well set up camp in the loo at this rate. In fact, that's probably how I've lost weight - all that exercise to-ing and fro-ing to the loo :)

Is a cup of tea with half a teaspoon of sugar ok? I have my tea without milk.

What's the stance on butternut squash? Too carby?

Report
JuanPotatoTwo · 19/01/2015 16:49

Nake I'd say try and do without - easier said than done I know - but one of the reasons of doing this is to cut the sugar cravings.

Mushroom, yes too high - something like 14g/100g if I remember rightly. Aim for veg with 3g/100g (or less).

JuanPotatoTwo · 19/01/2015 17:04

Just looked butternut squash up - it's 7.5g. Knew my memory wasn't too be relied upon :)

Ok, I will do breakfast!

Avocado with salt and lemon juice is pretty yum.

Mootime, you said on your list of meals that ds is okay with cheese. So youre breastfeeding? I have a feeling (will need to look back for you) that when you are bf, you hang on to extra fluid? So you wouldnt necessarily get the same whoosh in the first few weeks that those who are losing excess fluid might have?

Am feeling a bit dizzy this eve. I have eaten 3 meals, so it's not a faint-like feeling. I remember having this when I low carbed before but I can't remember what I did if anything to alleviate it. Any ideas?

Hello. Just looking for some advice on my food intake.

Today I had
B- avocado in olive oil and a BPC
BPC
L- chicken salad with roast chicken, lettuce, cucumber and mayo
D- roast chicken with baked sweet potato and lots of butter.

Yesterday I had
B- 3 egg omelette with onion and courgette and a BPC
BPC
L- roast chicken and avocado salad with olive oil
D-chicken and brocolli and lots of butter.

I know the chicken was repeated, but does this sound okay? I need to vary the meat and will do that now that I've got into the swing of this.

I lost 4lbs the first week and only half the second, but not deterred as I know I can fix this and it's still a move in the right direction. I think it's probably down to me not having enough water.

I'm on week three and struggling with water intake. I sort of feel a bit sloshy and keep forgetting to drink it. Also keep having to wee at night, so wondering if I should be aiming it get my water intake mostly done by a certain time.

Many thanks in advance for any advice and help.

Xxx
