I'm bootcamping but live in OZ. I have found I get lost in the main thread because it all happens when I'm sleeping. I though I might do the food recording here in the hope there might be some others who are also not on GMT.
Day 1
Breakfast Egg and coconut flour pancakes
Lunch Grilled halmoui with salad including some tomatoes and mayo and humous
Dinner BBQ Lamb shoulder (in wine) with spinach, mayo, cucumber and tomotoes
Sancks/others stuff: I had about 4 coffees and teas yesterday which I have milk with. And then in the evening a fat bomb and some greek yoghurt :(

Day 2
Breakfast Lamb shoulder (in wine) with spinach, mayo, cucumber and tomotoes

Hi hazchem!

Is it really hot where you are? Have just seen the weather report about the heat in Melbourne. I'm struggling to feel sorry for you all, as my feet are still cold despite having turned the heating up high here ...

Hi Hazchem -i'm in NZ so similar. That is a delicious sounding breakfast :)

Breakfast today for me was a paleo cereal (almonds, desiccated coconut and chia seeds basically) with half a cup of almond milk.

Just had lunch and it was smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado and tomato.

I'm in the US.
Today I had:
B - eggs with mushrooms
L - Leftover chicken soup
D - grilled chicken breast with roasted cauli, broccoli and mushrooms.

BIWI Yes super hot. Today is about 35 but tomorrow will be 39 or so. I'm not having any problems drinking my liters of water a day:)

Moreyear yours sounds good too. The pancakes are pretty easy. Two eggs beaten with a spoonful of coconut flour and good sprinkle of grated Parmesan then cooked in a hot pan with either butter or coconut oil.

popsnsqueeze I love roast broccoli, especially if the little tips are just a little black.

Something I've found tricky here is cream. It's either single or super thick so not really great for using in coffee.

I'm having problems finding full fat Greek yogurt. In fact, i can't even find full fat yogurt for my kids, been looking for about 6 months (since we arrived here).
Crazy!

Report
hazchem · 14/01/2014 06:01

That is crazy can you get plain low fat and then mix in some cream?

It seems ridiculous in a dairy producing nation like NZ but only in the last couple of months has double cream become available! Previously you could only get single or thickened cream - thankfully a small independent organic creamery has started making it. It's bloody delicious.

popsnsqeeze have you got a Trader Joes or Whole Foods near you? I think they normally have it.

This brand is in the US and has a full fat yoghurt.

I can get double cream but it's like clotted cream and just doesn't work or it's got gelatin in it :(

Finnishing up the days food.
Snack at the pool some nuts approx 20 and celerey and houmous
Lunch Lamb spinach and mayo
snack cheese
Dinner Sausages lettuce, cucumber and Mayo
Probably 4 or 5 liters of water today as it's 30 degree inside my house.

Thanks moreyear! I don't have a trader joe's or wholefoods anywhere close by. But I'll look out for that brand. I think that perhaps a health food store might have...
Just seems so crazy that in a country (and state) with such an obesity problem sells everything low fat... and it really doesn't seem to make any difference to the size of the population! And how can childrens yogurts be low fat?! They need the calories!!

Report
hazchem · 15/01/2014 04:07

I think one of the reasons we have an obesity epidemic is that there is so much low fat diet snacks around.

L) avocado, lettuce, cucumber, mayo, tomato dash of lime and a slice of cheese

It is so hard popsnsqeez when y ou shift far from home learning where to shop. You blithely expect supermarkets to be the same and then have a rude awakening. :)

Breakfast - paleo cereal and almond milk ( I am a creature of habit and it is fast with two wee ones)
Lunch - ham on the bone creamy coleslaw, cheese
Dinner same as lunch
Snack - a boiled egg mixed with mayo and a little curry powder.
and I have some organic raspberries and boysenberries and double cream for later.

Hope your chicken was good hazchem. Are you having normal milk in your flatwhite?

Report
hazchem · 15/01/2014 07:29

Yeah just normal milk. At the moment I think My carb count is pretty low. After weigh in next week I'll see how I go. I don't mind butter as a milk substitute in coffee but feel I need to get the protein and regular carbs out before going the full fat attack.

I made a flaxseed porridge the other day similar to this one lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/breakfast1/r/flaxpdcereal.htm it's really quick I think mine need extra flavour so the peanut butter or a cashew butter would be yummy, think I'll wait for winter to do more experiments.

Hi I'm boot-camping in North Canterbury, NZ
I lived in the UK (London) for 10 years and came home 3 years ago. I read IPD just before I left London and came home and lost 38kgs.
My weight has crept up since going back to work full time (teacher) and creeping in my alcohol, dark choc and odd cheats. I have carried on low carb eating though- no bread, rice, potatoes etc for 3 years.
Anyway my aim now is to lose the 8kgs that I regained and another 5kgs to reach my original goal.
It's hard when I was a size 22 and am now a 14 not to be complacent. I look and feel so much better than but was near a size 12 after I lost the weight and now size 14 is starting to get very tight!!! I'm 6ft tall so size 12 is quite slim on me and I don't think I have been that size since I was 12!!!
Anyway I am back to strict low-carb and have had a great week, 3litres +of water a day.
Today's menu
B- half avo, egg, bacon, mushroom
L- Tuna mayo salad
D- will be beef casserole with buttered spinach

By the way I am going to have a planned cheat of vodka and soda next week on Tuesday and Wednesday as we are off camping for a couple of days before school goes back but haven't had a drink since 4 days before bootcamp started and then I'm off alcohol again until the weight is off. Food will be all good during camping though. I'll get organised!

I lived in London for 8 years and was a sneeze away from my goal weight when I landed in Australia October 2012. Since then I've put on 25 Kilos. I'm so close to the biggest I've ever been (bar pregnancy).

Camping food should be good for low carb, eggs on a griddle and BBQ meats.

I agree that trying to find a decent yoghurt here was bloody shocking when I first arrived (2009), although it has since got a bit better.
I'm in NSW, Australia.
I did manage to find Dairy Farmers union yoghurts, 2 or 3 flavours were full fat but most were 98% fat free. Can't have them now because of the sugar content. Gippsland yoghurts are bloody lovely, full fat - but also too high in sugar and they don't do a natural one in my supermarkets (we have one each of Coles and Woollies).
Went through ALL the greek yoghurts/ natural yoghurts on the shelf the other day, and the lowest carb full fat yoghurt I could get still had ~5% sugars (7% carbs) - the only one that was low enough in sugars was fat free!!! Angry I will NOT eat fat free yoghurt for anyone.

Am Shock that even children's yoghurts are low fat where you are, pops! That's outrageous. Angry

Re. the double cream - Gippsland do a lovely double cream, yes sometimes it has solidified in the carton (which works for me because i like it like that - goes straight onto scones! Wink) but sometimes it's still liquid, you just have to shake the carton before you buy it to hear if it sloshes. Our Coles also do an own brand double cream, which is less likely to be solid, IME. But even if it has solidified, it will still go into coffee ok.
Thickened cream is an utter abomination!

Oh and I fully agree that the obesity epidemic has been sparked/encouraged by the low fat industry. Skinny Cow ice cream is the worst offender in this category - ice cream made with full cream has a relatively low GI, because the fat reduces the sugar spike; but skinny cow has none, so it's just a massive sugar hit. Disgusting!

hazchem · 17/01/2014 03:38

I get Jalna Greek Yoghurt which is 10% fat. I think it's creamy. That or the Aldi one.
I actually picked up some of the Coles one yesterday to test it again and it worked quite well in coffee.

I used to have those skinny cow ones all the time because of WW.

Thumbwitch · 17/01/2014 03:48

I looked at the Jalna but I'm sure it had more carbs/sugars than some of the others. The ones I ended up with were Woollies own brand, and an organic one called five:am, which has no added sugar and was about the same as the woollies one. The Woollies one is the one that I'm finding pretty sour - I haven't tried the organic one yet.

Yep, rechecked the Jalna in Coles this afternoon - definitely higher sugar/carbs in the full fat one they stock. Coles' own wasn't any use either, have to stick to Woollies.

Today's food:
B - greek yoghurt
L - 2 egg omelette with leftover fish (warmed through in butter), mushrooms (fried in butter), broccoli and cheese.
D - leftover beef stirfry, with added butter-fried mushrooms
S - fried haloumi with home-made tzatziki - Greek yog, lemon juice, garlic salt, fresh mint, cucumber and capers (cos I like them).

I am finding that my carb cravings are nil during the day but terrible in the evenings. I wasn't sure that I was actually hungry when I did the haloumi and tzatziki, but I was craving something to eat...

Thumbwitch · 17/01/2014 12:03

What can I dip in the cream? If fruit were an option, I'd be laughing, but it's not yet - any ideas?

Report
hazchem · 17/01/2014 21:28

I struggle in the evening too. I think partly because I eat quite early. So breakfast is 6 or 6:30 lunch is normally 12 then dinner between 5:30-6pm. It just quite along time till bedtime 10:30-11pm. Coupled with putting DS to bed being a pretty stressful affair.
So I've been having a fat bomb, which isn't really bootcamp but much lower in carbs then other evening snacks.

Last night I had 5 glass of champagne!!! So this morning I decided to really make sure then next two days are proper good bootcamp days.

B) browned butter scrambled eggs with Parmesan cheese, with an avocado all sprinkled with sumac salt and pepper and two long blacks and double cream. :) all up I think that is just under 5g of carbs

Lunch will probably be salad and smoked muscles and dinner is likely to be eggy too.

Just had a quick look up and Jalna greek yoghurt is only 6.1g of carbs and the woolies one is 7.3g. Although woolworths is slightly fattier at 11g and jalana is 10g.
