We're off on a trip to NYC shortly with DD who is 10yo.

Can anyone recommend great places to eat for all three meals? We are staying nr Times Square.

SueW, nothing springs up to my mind at the moment, but do buy the TIME OUT guide, there's a great section for children with things to do, what/where to eat etc... have fun smile

I liked the Tribeca grill. here It is quite pricey though, so it depends on what you are looking for.

The City search website has some good restaurant recommendations and reviews.

look!. I'm envy smile

agree about the timeout guide - they are indispensable.

We took dd to a nice mexican restaurant just off broadway but not so good for breakfast I guess!

the magnolia bakery for cupcakes (in bleeker st)

The Grill looks good.

We're also hoping to go to but it would have to be for lunch as the dinner portions are far too large (petit filet at lunch is 8oz - which is twice as big as I'd normally have anyway and it's not available in the evening). And it is rather expensive! I am wondering if I will get away with an extra plate for DD.

Cupcakes sound good too.

We need a 'What to Eat In NYC guide'! DD & I love trying all sorts of foods and it would be great to have a food tick list to go alongside that of the attractions.

Bubba Gumps in Times Square is great fun! Or Planet Hollywood. Big portions though!

Good food rather than fantastic, but I would recommend Metrazur if only for location- it's in Grand Central on a balcony (like the Oyster Bar) and has fantastic views of the wonderful ceiling and architecture.

you have got to go to one of these. your dd will love it

Carmines is great though you often have to queue for a table - beware that they are "family sized" portions. They're not kidding - one lasagne between three of you is fine. Very new york Italian and very loud and bustle-y.

There are several in manhattan and I think one near Times square.

For people watching the cafe on the mezzanine in Grand central station is good and does a cook NY cheesecake.

ooh and how about teh Russian Tea rooms for tea?

pinkspottywellies Tue 04-Dec-07 22:43:55

Oh Yes! We went to the Cheyenne Diner on that link. It was fab. We went on the way to the museum on Intrepid if you're heading that way. It just near Madison Square Garden.

francagoestohollywood Tue 04-Dec-07 22:46:26

is the russian tea room still open? carmines.
what about pastrami sandwiches? (kats)

Kewcumber Tue 04-Dec-07 22:48:12

russian tea room

Joe's Shanghai in Chinatown for soup dumplings; Katz's Deli on the lower east side for HUGE sandwiches.

Tamum - sorry just realised that we're talking about the same place in Grand central - didn't know the name...

francagoestohollywood Tue 04-Dec-07 22:50:24

[why were I thinking that the russian tea room had closed? I'm going mad]

SueW Wed 05-Dec-07 11:31:39

Some fantastic suggestions.

I found this that refers to the Russian Tea Rooms having been closed:

Go to Virgil's barbecue...near Times Square

margoandjerry Wed 05-Dec-07 21:13:54

Houstons for burgers. They do the BEST burgers. Honestly could eat one now (and have only just had dinner). There'[s more than one but the one I remember is at 153 E 53rd St. Better for lunch because they have queues in the evening.
