Is this Mumsnet (a board for Mums)? If so, why do you allow men to post on here? Why can't they contribute to their own discussion boards.

Tortoise Wed 30-Sep-09 21:16:20

Because it is a forum by parents for parent not just Mums.

Tortoise Wed 30-Sep-09 21:16:50

ooops missed the s off 2nd parents!

vonstingerrrr Wed 30-Sep-09 21:18:22

so call it parents net....

Lulumama Wed 30-Sep-09 21:18:28

its by parents for parents, this topic has been done to death

men are parents too, and often you get a dad posting to ask about supporting his partner through birth and breastfeeding etc..

GypsyMoth Wed 30-Sep-09 21:18:44

there is a section on here called 'dadsnet'

and many dads take over the traditinal mum role anyway, either as sahd or lone parent

they still have parenting problems and come here same reaso as we do

GirlsAreLOud Wed 30-Sep-09 21:18:50

Sheesh. What, do you think they are going to contaminate the place? Shall we chase out all the women on here who aren't actually mothers too - nannies, nursery nurses, people ttc?

GypsyMoth Wed 30-Sep-09 21:20:39

there is also a 'gransnet' that ok with you i wonder??

MovingOutOfBlighty Wed 30-Sep-09 21:20:53

Perhaps it is refreshing to have another POV in this world.

Or would you prefer it to all be a nice homogenous place?
Where to stay at home dads go? Surely they often have the same issues in life.

But no, you are right. Shun anyone who doesn't have a fanjo.

vonstingerrrr Wed 30-Sep-09 21:22:04

no, just keep it as Mum's net. dad's can make their own site called Dad's net. why do we allow them on here. come on mum's - take control...... this is our space

MovingOutOfBlighty Wed 30-Sep-09 21:22:14

And while we were at it, I saw a shock man in Mothercare the other day.

Don't worry, I hurled Avent sterilisers at him until he ran away.

I know of at least one man that posts on this website who has been a lone parent for quite some time. There are also men who work with children (at least one male nanny) and also fathers/husbands who want to help support their wifes in parenting their children.

It's for parents by parents.

LadyFoof Wed 30-Sep-09 21:23:24

Hasn't there been enough Us and Them recently? FFS!

LadyGlencoraPalliser Wed 30-Sep-09 21:23:44

This is a parenting board despite its somewhat misleading title. And 50% of parents are men.

alwayslookingforanswers Wed 30-Sep-09 21:23:45

look at that big logo on the top left of the screen is says

UnquietDad Wed 30-Sep-09 21:25:19

In my case, DW and I both work and share the childcare, and she has no interest in internet forums.

i agree with lockets

if you don't like it, you don't have to stay

there are so many positives on MN,why not try looking for those rather than demanding that men are banned??

GypsyMoth Wed 30-Sep-09 21:29:41

we evebn get TROLLS who post here, but whether they are mums or not i don't know...

and where should we place gay parents? shall we not have them here either...

ImGrandThanks Wed 30-Sep-09 21:32:18

In the past 2 weeks I have advised 2 Dads to have a look at Mumsnet

They both said it was interesting (and scary smile)

It never crossed my mind you had to be female to be a parent and like mumsnet

vonstingerrrr Wed 30-Sep-09 21:36:36

this is Mum's net. I was a mum, now a nan. not a dad. call it parent's net if it is for both parties. Don't mislead us committed mum's / grannies. Go to mothercare and find the men with their nappies in hand ready to do the 2am and 4am feeds. send them to their own site or change this one to PARENT'S NET There are thousands of lone parents who have no help from their ex. My daughter is one of them. Mum's net for MUM's......
