It'll be ok. Leave him upstairs for a few minutes, go and sit downstairs, hold your breath and count to ten.

Shite they're not open, how very unhelpful of me.

Can you pretend to yourself it's not nighttime, get him up and get some toys out?

It won't help him sleep, but if he's not sleeping anyway you might as well not feel so bad.

Go and make yourself a cup of tea. he will be fine and you need a few minutes break.

How many hours has he slept during the day?
Are you in one room? (ie in with him moving around side light on etc?)
would you like to try my NCT sleep book?
Agree with others you could try toys out play and cup of tea mine have all noded off within around an hour when we do that

tea for you not him

If he's just awake, p[lonk him in the pushchair/pram and get your head down on the sofa. You don't have to be awake just because he is.

If he is screaming, how about a walk in the fresh air for a few minutes?

Is he sick?

Report
colditz · 08/07/2008 00:45

Walk in the fresh air, I think. Don't over dress him for it, let him get quite cool. If it doesn't work I am sorry but it has worked for me before.

Do you have anyone you can ring?

OK one hour is good
could you try to play for a bit then do your whole bedtime routine what ever it is bath cuddle story bottle whatever see if he picks up on cues?

does he just want you to lie down with him?

Report
Ready4anotherCoffee · 08/07/2008 00:48

he is prob over tired. Agree with colditz, try a walk. if you are not happy leaving the house try a sling or tucking him into the pushchair and rocking him

Report
avenanap · 08/07/2008 00:48

Don't worry. We've all been there. Have you tried lying him on the bed, you lying next to him, humm the theme tune to neighbours or something and stroke his face? If this doesn' work pop him in his pram and take him for a walk. If he falls asleep leave him in the pram.

oh dear, you poor thing. Have you no one you can phone for any help? Obviously not your family, but a friend?
I wish I could offer you some useful help but it's already been said - hope you get some respite soon
(((hugs)))

if you like the going out idea you could try pushing him along hall and back again, only trouble is if he falls asleep you've got to lift him back into cot

Report
avenanap · 08/07/2008 00:51

Na, just leave him to sleep in the pram. There's no need to wake him up.
