Hi, I am a single mum of twins and I have MS which means I get very tired and can't walk much. I am absolutely gagging for a holiday but I have nobody to go with and couldn't cope on my own. What do you lot do? I think it would be fun to go away with other single parents - are there any websites for that kind of thing?
yes there are but it all rather depends on what you are looking for, what you can afford, and how much you can manage realistically. How old are your twins?
Mango is meant to be good, but some people have said it's a little pricey. Do you know any other single parents or friends who might be able to go away with you? You might like to consider something like pontins or butlins which usually have a kids club.
Is there a lone parent group or gingerbread group near you? They might have some trips planned, or you might find people who want to go away with you. I went on a holiday last week with a group from my local lone parents group, my son had the best holiday ever and it was so nice to have adult company for me too.
I have travelled with an excellent company three times, called Small Families.
Their holidays are very well organised, bonded by ATOL (important these days when companies go bust) and you meet wonderful parents and children on their trips. The trips are not cheap but are often all-inclusive so you get to forget about paying for extras once you reach your destination.
To give you an idea of how relaxing their holidays are - last time I travelled with them I finished two novels during one week! Usually impossible when you have children.
If you're interested, we're having an MN single parents festival next summer. Basically a load of us are going to meet up at a festival (haven't decided which one yet) and spend a couple of days having a mini holiday with all our kids etc., all getting to know each other.
Sounds mad, but might be something you're interestedin?
I have heard that mango and smallfamilies are good but very expensive.
Singlewithkids is a good place to start you can either suggest a holiday and ask other members if anybody would be interested or you could join on one of the many trips they have advertised, alot more affordable than the above two companies.
Singleparenttravelclub also offers a membership of details of other members holidays but I have never used them so I cant tell you what they are like.
Hi, Singlewithkids is a great place to start, we're also considering a mass jaunt to some festivals honeypot, wouldn't it be great if we could get single parents from forums all around the country to come along and really get the party going?
