Benefits advice

Hi. I have this week separated from my partner due to domestic violence.
He has cleared the joint account.
I've applied for housing benefit, childcare and council tax reduction. Rang tax credits to try to sort that out.
I'm panicking like mad that I'm not going to be able to pay the bills. I work 30 hours a week but not a clue how much in benefits I might be entitled to, I've never had them before. I live on social housing (being moved very soon) and have one child.

Any advice/stories or support gratefully received x

Have you been asked to claim universal credits at all?

If not you should receive full rent if you are social housing tenant earning minimum wage or there abouts?

Depends on your income though

Universal credits aren't rolled out in my area yet.

I bring home roughly 1,200 a month. Just wondered if anyone else was in a similar situation

There's a calculator online that will help you work out how much you are entitled to. Just google it.

Sorry you have suffered domestic violence. Sorry no, I haven’t been in the same situation.
Entitled to is a good website for using the calculator.
That’s good universal credit isn’t out for you yet..

With that wage I would assume (based on your rent amount?) you will get help with rent payments (speak to your council about housing benefit forms). You also may get reduction in council tax from the council.
I would assume you will get highest rate tax credits aswell, or a combination of working tax and tax credits. I would have thought at least £240 per month if you have one child? Although I’m not sure how the childcare element works.. you may get all of that towards childcare instead?

It should be sorted out relatively quickly if it’s jot universal credits. Just explain to your landlord

Hope this is of some help
