Coping with a full time job and a two year old(2 Posts)
Hi, I started a new full time job about a month and a half ago. I have a two yr old DD and I was a SAHM prior to starting the job. I'm enjoying my job, but I am really, really struggling with managing my job and looking after my daughter. My hours are 9.30am - 4.30pm Mon to Fri and I have at least a one hour commute into work. I drop my DD off at nursery around 8am and pick her up around 5.30/5.45pm. We get home, she has a light snack, hot chocolate (just the tiniest bit of chocolate powder) and she always wants to watch a DVD - her favs are Peppa Pig and more recently Topsy and Tim. Around 6.15/6.30pm, I try to get her to have a bath which is always met with resistance. She doesn't ever want to have a bath or go to bed. It is always a massive battle to get her upstairs, get her in the bath. put on her nappy, clean her teeth, put her pyjamas on, get her into her cot. Every step feels like a huge battle. Eventually, if I'm lucky, she'll be in bed by 7.30pm. For the last week or so though she won't settle, cries non stop, I go up and hold her for ages until she eventually falls asleep. I am totally and utterly exhausted. I'm seriously thinking about packing in my job as I just can't cope any more. Does anyone have any advice please? I'm so fed up. Thank you.
I'm a working single mum too and it is exhausting, so I feel for you.
Look at it with 2yo eyes. Until recently she had you to herself all day. Maybe she wants to spend some time with you. What about a compromise. Could you share a bath when she can play/ relax with you for a little while before bed. Then maybe she would go to sleep easier.
