Separating and moving to London area

I hope that this is the place to write!
I am currently living overseas but am planning to move to London (London area), to be closer to my mother and sister since I am separating from my now 7 years old daughters father.

There are so many decisions to be made.
I would be really grateful for any advice on a good area to move to, what the pros and cons are for living more central vs outside of London. Good schools and what to look for.
It really is quite a big step and I am aware of that I will have to start over at 35.
I am really scared but at the same time hopeful that this will be the best choice not only for me but specially for my daughter.

Thanking anyone in advance for taking the time to answer!

Whereabouts in London are you aiming to move to? There are loads of lovely and helpful mumsnetters who will be able to help but geography will help!!!

Thank you for answering so quick! Well I am basically open to anything, looking for a safe area, not to expensive.. my mother used to live in crouch end but moved to Tunbridge Wells and my sister lives in Richmond area. My dream situation would be to love close to them. My mother has agreed to help out a lot in the beginning.
I am just unsure of where to look, where is it best to raise children? Confused
Quite overwhelmed to be honest.

I don't want to put a dampener on this, but is your Ex in agreement to the move. Making sure you are able to move would be my very first step.

Will you be working? Do you have a budget?

He has said that if I will be happier there I can move. So I guess I have thumbs up to move Wink
I do like the south west area, like Richmond.
Will be self employed so I will be working.

I used to live in clapham/ northcote road/ nappy valley area and I cant recommend it enough.
Its quite expensive but it feels like living in a little village, schools are great ( check out honeywell and belleville), parks everywhere,
Lovely shops, cafes, activities, and people are very friendly. I moved there when I was pregnant and stayed for 6 years and it was amazing.

All the best X

What's your budget? Buy or rent? Hard to advise without knowing more detail!

Those areas aren't exactly close together. TW is a fair way out of London , what help are you anticipating from dm?
