Seriously, how do other people cope? I'm not sure I can.

You don't engage. You block everyone you can.

I have put up with it for years while kids were small...now they are old enough to decide with their feet and have both recently decided to go no contact with the vile family and little contact with him...sad but I can't make their relationship with him happen any more so I'm stepping down as go between.....

I'm really trying not to engage, but thanks for the reminder as it's easy to get sucked in, especially with all the texts he's sending
.

My concern is that the dcs may suffer emotional abuse and worse from his family when they visit him. They're still quite young, but the eldest is old enough to be aware of it.

You can ignore /block all family members...Ex basic contract on facts of your DC... Ignore all other contact..log it if it is harassment..
I found with my Ex If I responded he just got more abusive no matter how reasonable I was..

If you feel your children are at risk different issue though sadly with no evidence very little you can do.

Buy a cheap phone and transfer your number to that, then give everyone else your new number for your real phone. Gives you control as you can just switch on the prat mobile when you are able to deal with it and shove it in a drawer/out in the car/in the bin when you can't be arsed dealing with it. I also had amusing names for ex and his sidekicks on it. It is amazing how liberating it is - plus the fact I know he would have hated being relegated to a £2.99 phone as he was a show off re phones and gadgets. Take back control.

Oh I like that idea of the prat mobile! Might try that
