Hello ladies,

So the time has come where we are having to move out of the family home, legal team are fighting for my share of equity with ex vigorously disputing all aspects and refusing to sign transfer documents on the basis of what the courts have potentially award me. For the interim period I need to move into rental accommodation with me and dd aged 6&7. I was wondering if it is legally acceptable to rent a one bed property with two children. Estate agents have been so rude and unhelpful when they hear that I am alone with the children and just assume I should go to council for homeless housing but as I am due funds from the sale of a house homeless housing will not help.

I can only afford a one bed property in my area which is around £800 pcm (2 bed properties range from £1000+ ) with bill on top. Anything more and I may not be able to manage 6 months rent.

Has anyone had any experiance in renting on the private sector or the housing office.

Thank youConfused

I can't help you with the one bedroom situation, but I have been through a similar situation and the housing agreed to pay aslong as they seen evidence from solicitor. This could help in the short term but probably not long term as they take savings into account (once the equity is released) sorry I can't be any more help, hope you get sorted soon x

No idea sorry but wanted to bump & offer support. Hope you get sorted.

Do you have to be honest with the Estate Agents? Couldn't you like & say you were on your own or with 1 DC? Unless kids aren't allowed, your personal circumstances are none of their business IMHO. Good luck.

Not sure if this is relevant and I don't know about the one bedroom issue, but I rent my property to a young lone parent and her rent is paid directly to me from housing benefit people- are you entitled to any help with rent? I know my tenant found it hard as estate agents made judgments and people wanted huge deposits. I was please to get someone who wanted the house so much and has made it a home. I hope you find somewhere and a landlord who is helpful :-)
