Hi all,

I've never posted on this area before so I'll introduce myself. I'm 30 and have a 3 1/2 year old DD. I'm single and her 'D'F has never been involved and has never met DD.
ATM DD is going through a bit of a trying phase, very opinionated and pushing boundaries in a big way! We have a springer spaniel and a terrier and 3 ponies and a horse. My DM takes DD to preschool every morning so I can go to work and it all works.

I'm exhausted. I having a really bad day and I feel pushed to the limit. Not in a horrific way or violent or anything, I just feel like I've been spread too thin if that makes any sense! I'm so so tired of being the only parent, I can't even go to the bathroom without hearing 'mummy!'. I'm sick of always having to be the bad guy and having no one to share it all with. I love the bones of my DD and she is the best thing that has ever happened to me and generally we have a fantastic relationship and are really close. Just finding it hard today! Need a night off I think but haven't had one since October.

Sorry for the rambling self pitying post!

Hi horseygeorgie

Sorry to hear you've had a hard day. I sympathise. I've been on my own since last summer, my DS is the same age and it's very, very hard work. At the moment, he's waking at 5am which is a killer. Breakfast done and dusted by 6am and it's still dark, with the day stretching ahead! Not only am i exhausted, but he is too, so the moods can be very trying and if it's just you doing everything, it can really get you down. What I find helps is making myself go to bed early - not easy if it's the only time to yourself you get, I know but otherwise you just totally wear yourself out - and trying to organise something fun or nice or anything you enjoy, however small, to look forward to. I've also cut down on wine in the evening, wasn't drinking excessively, but was finding that even a couple of glasses interrupted my sleep and made me feel worse mood-wise.

Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Thanks for that, sometimes just to rant a little is all you need! It's nice to hear I'm not the only one in this situation.

I posted here the other weekend and had some lovely supportive posts when I was v down. My ds is same age. He's wonderful but I'm finding him utterly exhausting just now. And the dog. The thought of horses would tip me over the edge!! You've got a lot on.

I'm feeling pretty much on the brink just now. So I'd second early nights where you can and whatever you can do to be kind to yourself. I'm sure you're doing a tremendous job. Flowers

horsey I had this with my DD at about the same age. I actually had the health visitor round, saw my GP etc because I genuinely thought I couldn't cope. It is a phase I think most children go through (some maybe more than others) and I can promise I does pass.

It took my DD a good few months and we finally came out the other side. She's 4 1/2 now and a lovely polite girl - nothing like the terror of a year ago.

Stick with it. Take offers of help wherever you can and I promise you'll both come through the other side eventhough it feels impossible atm.

Thanks for all your kind words, it really does help! Feeling a lot better today, I think I just had one of those days. Despite having to chase escaped cows around the countryside at work I'm cheerful!
