I have recurring bad dreams/nightmares.

I know why, Im alone with DC and have absolutely no one to call on.

and Because of previous experiences with abuse/assault on us.

last night yet another nightmare of being attacked by people next door (they are a bit thuggy anyway, and we are moving soon).

Its a recurring one, and I wake up in a cold sweat. this morning was 5am and I couldn't/didn't want to get back to sleep.

the rare times weve had a overnight guest (from abroad so really dont have anyone to call on) I didn't feel scared at all and didn't have bad dreams. felt safe.

our house has all security and safety features and I triple check everything before I go to bed every night anyway.

When DC has bad dreams I can cuddle her and make her feel safe.

theres no one to do that for me and don't I know it.

I hate not feeling safe, secure and loved and protected.

anyone else? anyone else get scared at night?

Can you go and speak to your doctor at all?

If you have all the safety features. Try not to worry sure you will be fine

its recurring, there are reasons, of which I said of in OP, but itsa easier said than done, im a very light sleeper anyway. thasnks for replying btw.

doc said to take sleeping tabs but no I cant as DCs disabled and I have to turn her over and see to her toileting a few times a night, plus be aware so she doesn't fall out of bed or anything, plus if there WAS an attempted break in id rather hear it before anyone enters and can call police.

so doc said theres nothing he can do.

just wondering if any other SPs feel scared at night with no protection?

My sister used to. For years as a SP she slept with a baseball bat by her bed. She hated it and was scared someone would break in.

She has always been that way but got better as she became happier. Some nights she would bring my DN in to bed for company.

If you're having nightmares, you might want to try to learn lucid dreaming. It's where you recognise that you're dreaming, and take control of the dream - so, you can decide to fly away; or change what's happening in any way you like, really. It sounds weird, but it is something you can learn to do over time, and it can be helpful for people who have problems with nightmares.

I'm a lp. The more tired I am, the less sleep I get, the more my anxiety rises tbh and the daily stresses and strains have got to me lately. I've just gone back on a low dose of ADs to help me.

I can get scared at night too.

There is medicine for anxiety, though dealing with the cause of anxiety would be the most important thing.

Could you maybe find a lodger? Or move closer to your family?

I've recently become a LP and living alone with DD is taking some getting used to. I have always felt scared at night when I was in the house alone. The one thing I try to tell myself is that I'm there to protect DD so she needs me to be strong. It might sound silly bit it helps me a bit. I'm also on a low dose of anti anxiety pills for general anxiety which I'm sure helps too. Sorry you're feeling like this OP, I know how awful it can be.

its not anxiety, its the knowing youre alone at night and vulnerable.
