A holiday for single parents

I'm organising a holiday next summer for some local single parents. Not one of these "Ooo, you're a single parent! That'll be £1,500 please" holidays like I've found when I've Googled - but a nice, "lets share a chalet and cut costs" affair and I wondered if it would be worth asking MNers if you'd be interested in coming?

It's sharing with one or two other single parents and their children at a Eurocamp

Comments please ladies (and gentlemen)

you say local but you don't say where local is...

I mean - I'm doing it already for a group of us from round here - would anyone want to jump on the bandwagon and come with us from wherever you are in the UK?

Great idea, but you would have to be more specific where in the country, or in Europe.

I, ve done this previously and it was great.

As mine just turned 23 I doubt we, ll be joining

So far, it's a toss up between Italian Lakes and Austria

Yes I'd be interested. I'm already in Italy so would be v handy.

I'd probably ask you to sort your own flights out CommonBurdock but can add you to the list? It sill might be Austria, totally not sure which one we'll choose yet.

If anyone interested can please email [email protected] I'll add you to an email list and keep you updated. We'll be booking it in October.

Details have been confirmed:

A holiday for single parents to a EuroCamp at the Italian Lakes.
Duration = 1 week, Sunday 31 August - Sunday 6 September 2015

To have a look at the Bella Italia camp - see here:
www.eurocamp.co.uk/campsites/italianlakes/il019-bella-italia/ataglance.html

*

PRICES - This will depend on how many families are able to share accommodation with you and how many children you have to pay for on the plane! To give an idea:

**Bungalow - Sleeps 4 comfortably (2 bedrooms) - £490.30
www.eurocamp.co.uk/accommodation/other-accommodation/lodges-and-bungalows/bella-italia-bungalow
I would not recommend that families share this style of accommodation as it seems very cosy

**2 Bed Mobile Home - Sleeps 4 comfortably - £451.10
www.eurocamp.co.uk/accommodation/mobile-homes/classic-mobile-homes/classic-two-bed
2 families share - £225 each

**3 Bed Mobile Home - Sleeps 6 comfortably - £485.40
www.eurocamp.co.uk/accommodation/mobile-homes/classic-mobile-homes/classic-three-bed
2 families share - £240 each
3 families share - £160 each

Linen is not included and extras will be around £20 per person extra

£100 per family deposit is required by 31 October. This will be the "make your mind up" date - anyone wanting to join after this date may be subject to higher fees as they will miss the early booking discount offered by Eurocamp

Flights from London - with one bag in hold luggage - around £150 each

Train to London can be as cheap as £20 for a single for parent and child with a friends & family rail card.

I may also organise an optional stop over before and after in London - this will be a Travelodge #nofrills

Other expenses include bus to and from the airport to the camp, food and spending money.

I've seen that Venice is only an hour away by train and so may well organise a day trip there. It's £60 for a return (might be cheaper).

There are FREE clubs and activities available during our stay:

If you'd like to come, please email [email protected]

school is likely to start for most people in that week - that will count out a lot of your potential sharers. Shame - I would have been interested.

Well that explains why it's so cheap!

London schools are back on 1 September, but the week before is double the price!

I would def be in if it weren't for it running into September.

I've contacted a number of Gingerbread groups and if there are enough parents I can organise it for you for the week before (happy to do so!) but the accommodation costs will be literally double...

I had an email from my local gingerbread group about this and have been pondering ever since. What are prices like for term time earlier in the year? I have two friends also interested and our children don't actually start school until next year :)

Happsunflower I've got a group booking rate but have a look on the Eurocamp website for you and your friends if you don't fancy coming with us.

The rates are better outside of school holidays, but the kids clubs do not always run.

I've chosen the Italian Lakes because 1. It's beautiful 2. The kids clubs 3. It's cheap during that week!

I would but I don't like to book so far in advance I'm afraid, I still haven't booked our holiday for this September!

Report
HappySunflower · 16/08/2014 22:30

Oh we'd be up for coming with you another time-just not going into September next year as we all have children starting school then.
There's probably enough of us to make our own booking anyway so not to worry...but its something worth gingerbread considering further in the future I think :)

Chocoholic - I need to book it in advance to get the group discount. If you wanted to email me nearer the time, I could see if I could add you on but I'd have no control over increase in price of accommodation and flights etc

HappySunflower - that's great! Our school holidays mean we're jot back until 7 Sept.

I've only just contacted the Gingerbread groups and if there are a number of parents that would like to go at another time, I wouldn't mind organising it for you. Feel free to speak to your local friendship group or to email me (address is up thread)
