My 7 month old dd is staying for her first overnight with exp and he's just called me to tell me she said mama a couple times. I'm gutted I missed it :( half way through a bottle of wine...

I'm sorry you missed it but it is so sweet that she was thinking about you and missing you!

Are you sure he's telling the truth? 7 months sounds really young to say anything meaningful. He may think he heard "mama", but it may have just been babbling. It also doesn't really count as a word if you can't infer meaning, so she can't really say "mama" meaning you if you aren't there to reach out to.

It is a pity that it happened in the first weekend she is away, but I'm sure that having her with you most of the time you will see many other firsts.

To put a positive stance on the subject, at least she had the decency to ask about you when away. My son didn't say mama until he was more than a year old, and that only after months of calling the dog by her name!

I'd lay money on her just babbling tbh.

However, I was with dd 24/7 when she was small and I still missed her first steps and words! I had went to the loo both times!

Definitely babbling. Mums always hear first words, doesn't count until then. Wink
