The Lone Parent Christmas Present.

There was a thread on here a few months ago about showing our children that we DO matter on special occations by buying ourselves a present, with wrapping and bows and everything.

Just like we do for everyone else and try to make their days as special as we can, we always get overlooked. It's rare or not very often that lone parents receive gifts and for those who have no family around it's a very rare thing indeed.

Someone said that it means it's showing the kids that mums/dads birthday and mums/dads present for christmas doesn't matter as they used to it.

On this thread was a pledge that we all buy ourselves something, wrap it up and leave it under the tree with everything else (if possible). Feeling guilty about it is not allowed.

I can't remember what everyone said they were going to treat themselves to and I want to know if anyone has actually done it.

Yeah, ok I cheated a little. I'm using mine already.

So, what are you going to buy yourselves for Christmas? Have you done it?

Cheapo dvd and book to keep me occupied while he is at his dad's. I read about doing yourself a present from them on here last year and vowed to do it.

We will also be making something to give to his dad even though he is a twat because ds will enjoy.

I have book on knittting, from aldi. I am sure it will prop up a shelf opon the bookshelf for quite a while.

I may get an electronic game... ith games for ds so i can thrust it at him ahen I want to do something without wrestling a meltdown.

My mum gets me a little something from the toddler. He does see his dad but his dad doesn't bother getting me anything.

I've just treated myself to my very first tablet, I don't usually buy myself presents but I really needed one for uni. Last year ds was concerned I wouldn't have any presents so I filled a stocking with stuff I already had (make up and the likes) and feigned delight! Will be doing the same this year. I do get a present from my parents and they get something for ds to give me.

I bought mine the other day - a piece of jewellery - its all wrapped up and ready to go under the tree :)

This is my first 'L' and first 'P' Christmas - but I've always treated myself at Christmas and Birthdays. This year I'm being extra kind, and have bought myself a really lovely vintage chair to go in DDs room for me to sit on for late/early feeds and general hanging out

I probably won't wrap it on this occasion!

I'm also getting some jewellery made - a nice necklace incorporating my 2 doc's names somehow. its my first on my own too and as DC are really little, I want to keep the Santa dream alive

Everyone should buy themselves something. Especially if they are on their own with kids with no family around, so really on their own.

I buy myself either jewellery/handbag/shoes, that kind of thing. And then I go to Boots and buy 3 for 2 presents (as I have three children) that I like and my mum wraps them up with the children every year. My ex makes a token effort but it is always, always second hand/car boot tat he's found and wrapped up so they get the opportunity to give me two gifts each which is great for me! I do my best to shame him every year by buying something decent from each child but he's never got the hint. I figure at least they know I tried and I'm not stooping to his level.

Promoted by DD, I decided to have a look for something I actually want this year, and give her some options for buying me something she knows I want. Gave my mum £30, and a couple of links to websites with good quality expensive slippers that I'd never dream of buying but thought I'd indulge myself. So, I don't know which ones DD picked but I'll know they are just what I asked for, and they'll be fab. I have a thing for slippers you see. I only ever get cheap crap ones that get ruined so these will be the business... I also suggested a pair of earrings and a necklace that I've had my eye on for a while, in case DD preferred to buy me that instead. Either way, I'll get a nice warm fuzzy feeling opening my present Xmas day.

I will be buying a tablet, it will be for the entire family, but I'll wrap it up and put it under the tree so I have something to unwrap on the day.

I will be buying myself stuff from the kids. Chocolate liquors and a DVD I want. I'll also be buying myself something from me to wrap (but have bought myself lots of treat things this autumn actually! I've needed them. It's been an extra tricky time. I'm thinking maybe nail polish or bubble bath or something...

My DS goes to present room at school fair and buys present up to value of £3...Obviously funded by me...My sister got him a more expensive present to give me last year ( and always has) he refused as he had got me what he wanted...He also came out of present room and told me that my presents weren't a necklace or a candle ....guess what I got?
