I know it is a long way off but like to plan in advance- nice to have things to look forward to! Kids with their father over August bank holiday. Have 4 days to occupy myself... Any suggestions / recommendations for my first lone adventure?

I personally prefer to avoid other people's kids when I don't have mine - nothing against them, just hurts seeing them when I don't have my own. Try and make some plans with child-free friends and do something you can't normally do e.g. shopping trips, go out, or have some quiet time whatever suits you x

Where do you live? I would take myself off to Shrewsbury Folk festival for the weekend, you're never alone at a festival. Good food, good music, nice people.
If I was having a weekend at home alone, I would make sure the house was nice & tidy before dc left, have friends over for a meal one eve, get a takeaway in for myself for one evening. A pile of books, magazines & dvd's a supply of chocolate and have a sofa day.
A trip to a museum & nice coffee shop.

Festival? Good for meeting people even if alone.

A yoga weekend, somewhere sunny but not too hot! Just the right mix of relaxation and pleasure :)

Ooohhh Anon- Yoga weekend sounds pretty good. Never done yoga before but suspect beginners would be welcome. Any suggestions of where to go?

Festival sounds good but not sure I'm brave enough to go it alone.

Be interesting to read some of these suggestions, dd is away at her godfathers May half term then end of July she is away for her first week with her Dad. Will be working both of them but would have finished by 230pm so will be at a loss as to what to do with myself then, plus they are going on a friday so will be whole weekend without too.
I am off the week after they get back so will be planning things to do then with her.
Look forward to reading the suggestions.

I've just had a long weekend without my children. I went to a friends on Friday night and enjoyed lots of drink, without worrying about childcare or having to get up early on saturday morning. Then I went clothes shopping - easier without kids! Then in the evening went to the theatre with friends. Today, I lazed in bed, then supermarket, then a bike ride in the sunshine.
Although I missed my children, I really appreciated time to myself!

I don't like being with other people's children when mine is away... It makes me feel really sad. Friends' children are ok but I don't want to be out & about seeing lots if families having a lovely time while I am missing mine.

SO, I blitz DS's bedroom, paint the house - stuff I can't easily do when he's at home. I see friends, go out for lunch, have a lie-in, get my hair cut etc. This time, I did a falconry experience which I'd been given for my birthday. I loved it.

In the summer, I might look into cookery school. Not sure what else. Good thread.

Edinburgh festival, it's a festival without the camping.

I may be able to help out with accommodation, pm me if your interested Smile
