What do you do when you and ' your partner' are invited out - but you don't have a partner!r

I've just received an email from the class rep for DD1's secondary class inviting all the mothers to get together for dinner and to bring our partners. I don't have a partner - have been on my own for yonks.

I'm too embarrassed to say - I'm single but can I come anyway! To be honest, I think I'd feel like a real gooseberry if I went.

What do other people do in this situation?

You're right about not being the only LP with a child in that class Mavis. I know one of the other mums is on her own. Maybe I should call her and ask if we could go together.

I am quite shy though. I've backpacked round Asia on my own but put me in a room with people I don't really know and I'm terrified!

Just want to add to the comments that you should go, you may even enjoy yourself! I am the only LP out of a class of 23 and always go when invited. Never mind the smug marrieds, I am the smug single, you can guarantee there wil be those there envious of your single status. I find it quite entertaining as there is always at least one who will grab you and moan about their partner and tell you how miserable they are!

When you get home you can smile knowing you have the bed all to yourself and don't have to listen to any drunken ramblings or snoring. :)
